State and national reports show that the tax credit program drove our brief spurt of business. The new home market in many areas has stalled again as lenders continue to be very conservative and builders are cautious. Thanks to all who supported the Parade of Homes. Our attendance was up dramatically and advertising sales very strong. We appreciate the support of our AHBA members and the Ames community. We continue to grow and update the event each year. We raised several thousand dollars for our AHBA Scholarship Fund thanks to the fabulous entries and strong attendance. The County Supervisor election will soon be upon us. The outcome sets the tone of how development and building in Story County will be supported. As an organization, we have shown we can be a positive influence for our industry, let s do this again. Support your candidates by donations of time and money. Feel free to contact Randy Rathert, Government Affairs Committee Chairman, with any questions or concerns. David Brown, our Chief Building Official, is seeking direct input from our builder members and appropriate subcontractors, on the upcoming code changes. In particular, an ongoing review of the permitting process is receiving an examination to become more effective. Please express your concerns as David is doing his best to consider input from all sources as we go forward. The fall schedule of meetings is shaping up, the fall golf outing has been announced, the Chili Cook-off will be back, an ISU coach are just several of the events to look forward as we resume monthly meetings in September. The Women's Council is continuing to assist the ACCESS women's shelter with a bathroom remodeling project. We are currently waiting for their decision on possibly installing a washer and dryer into the old bathroom which is being converted to a closet. Thank you to all of you who supported our dog house raffle during the Parade of Homes. We hope that the Mowery family of Ames is enjoying the new addition to their back yard. 5 A Message from: HBA Iowa Member Rebate Program Q2 10 The Member Rebate Program has been a successful program for the Builder and Remodeler members that have taken advantage of the program. We would like to have more of the membership participate in this great program. To accomplish this, your State HBA and the program administrators have developed a website for our program. You can put a link to this site on your website to make marketing the program easy. The address is: This website has the information on the Member Rebate Program, current Newsletter, Online Registration, and Rebate Claim Forms.
