Another meeting is upcoming. What can we do to make the event meaningful and valuable to our membership? How can we prevent the criticism that "the meetings are all the same"? Meetings start with the location. Our by-laws state that the meeting locations will rotate around the country. Locations are selected by balancing affordability, convenience and entertainment. Historically, some sites, like New Orleans and Las Vegas, attract a larger attendance. More than one year prior to the meeting, our Executive Secretary, Karol Johnson, visits the city to qualify hotels to host our meeting. The room accommodations, size of meeting rooms, location of the hotel to local attractions and convenience to the airport are all factors to be considered. Once the hotel has been selected, Karol negotiates rates and reserves blocks of rooms for our membership. Critical to every Rubber Roller Group meeting is the program. The burden for establishing the program falls to the Vice President. This is the most difficult task in preparing for each year's meeting. This year, Ronnie Rhodes is our Vice President and is preparing the program. Frequently, the topics addressed come from suggestions by our membership. Locating a willing, reliable and capable public speaker is a challenge. This is especially true when the reward for speaking is a free lunch or dinner. The leadership of the Rubber Roller Group is committed to providing a valuable experience for our membership at the annual meeting. We hope everyone finds the meeting enjoyable and takes something away from the meeting that more than pays for their cost to attend. If so, we have accomplished our mission. See you in Vegas! 6 Mini-Expo and Golf Outing Plans I am excited about this years RRG meeting in Las Vegas. The meeting is sizing up to be an exciting event and I encourage everyone to attend and get involved in the week's activities! From my corner of responsibility, I would like to promote a couple of events: Suppliers Mini Expo and The Fifth Annual Golf Outing. The mini-expo will again take place on Monday afternoon after the technical session. This is the opportunity for the suppliers to feature their company, products, and services. The mini-expo set-up will be in a table-top format as always. Times for the event are 2:30-5:00 PM. The cost to exhibit is $200/table. Please contact myself or Karol Johnson if you wish to register your company and reserve your table(s). The Fifth Annual RRG Golf Outing will take place on Tuesday, May 8th at 1:00 PM. The event will be at The Legacy Golf Club in Henderson, NV, an Arthur Hills design and a great location for a scramble event like ours! Again, the format will be matching teams of roll manufacturers against the supply base. Cost for the event is $135, which includes the green fee, cart, range balls, box lunch. Transportation is included for those who will need it. Rental clubs are also available for $35/set. Please register soon to protect your spot. Each year the event has improved from the last year, and I don't expect anything different this year.
