3 St Mary's Hospice - Online Bereavement Support Group Online Bereavement Support Group We are delighted to announce the launch of our Facebook Bereavement Support group. The group is run by St Mary's Staff and experienced volunteers and our aim is to promote the well being of bereaved people and to enable anyone bereaved by death to understand and cope with their loss. How do I join the group? Whether you're a pro on Facebook or you're just starting out in the world of social media we can help you gain access to our new service. Yes, I have a FB Simply request to join our group 'St Mary's Hospice Bereavement Support'. You will be warmly welcomed and the moderator will contact you to record essential information. No, I don't have a FB 1. Go to the Facebook website. Under Sign Up type your information into the boxes. 2. Facebook will send an to the address you provided. This is to ensure that you have given a real address and one that you genuinely have access to. Click on the button Confirm Your Account. A numeric confirmation code is also provided and you may be asked to type this in. 3. Next the Welcome page suggests that you get to know your privacy settings. On the welcome page you can use the search bar at the top to search for 'St Mary's online beareavement support group' then click 'join group' and we will message you for more information. 4 For further information visit or call How might the group offer support? - A chance for you to share your grief with other bereaved members - A place to talk about your loved ones without feeling unwelcome or uncomfortable - A safe place to post poetry, photographs, journals or articles about your loved one who has died - An opportunity to meet locals who can offer support, many times people who meet online and live in the same area often get together - A chance to feel less lonely in your grief - A place to learn coping skills, stress management techniques and ways to relax - Advice and information following bereavement A member of St Mary's Hospice Bereavement Support team will be available online every Thursday between 1pm-3pm to offer online support, advice and guidance. 5 Confidentiality and keeping you safe What this means in Law: All personal information relating to a patient or client must be treated confidentially and with respect. Members of a care team share confidential information only when it is needed for safe and effective care (with the patient s or client s consent). Information that is shared for the benefit of the wider community should be anonymised (i.e. Research/ statistical data). Individual s rights to object about sharing of confidential information should be respected. Organisations have policies, procedures and systems in place to ensure confidentiality rules are followed. You have a legal right to apply for access to health information held about you How this relates to you: We use an electronic patient database called EMIS. This means that things like your name, age, address and contact details will be recorded on this and a brief summary of any care intervention. It is a safe and secure system which is password protected. We keep accurate, up-to-date records and only record information which directly relates to your care. We keep any information about you secure. We work as a team to ensure your care remains safe and effective. To do this we have a supervisory system which allows team members to raise any concerns and receive guidance in the work that they are doing. This supervisory support system helps to keep our practice up-to-date, safe and most importantly ensures you receive a high standard of care. All discussions are confidential; sometimes we do need to talk to other health care professionals about your care, but would only do this with your consent. Any of your information gathered for national data collection is non-patient identifiable. When we have concerns: If we ever have concerns about your physical or emotional well-being, or we feel others could be in danger as a consequence, then our staff and volunteers have a duty of care to report this.
