AGENDA TOPICS WELCOME & INTRODUCTIONS Phebe Powell opened the meeting and welcomed the cabinet and everyone introduced themselves. Tell us about what your agency is doing currently that you would like to share. 1

2 APPROVAL OF MINUTES: PRESENTATIONS Karen Almond moved to motion approval of May 2013 minutes. Seconded by Debbie Owens. All in favor: Yes Pamela Reister presented from FUMCH. Reviewed mission and services they provide. They provide faith based services. Open Hearts is their foster care program. Started in started fostering in Volusia and Flagler counties as well as Hillsborough, Orange and Osceola Counties. They are still expanding throughout the state added Seminole County (offices in Fern Creek, Kissimmee and Sanford for the tri county areas). Seeking foster homes please contact her for more details. They have 7 total now and really need more. Bryan Nelson from Boot Camp for dads. Started 1990 in California and has grown both domestically (43 states in the USA) and internationally. 3 hour course (one time) for men only and free! Helps to define what a father is and includes real live babies and fathers in class. Babies come from former students in the class and their dad (veteran dads). Active hands on seminar. 4 locations in Seminole County at two hospitals, a birthing center and the Health Department. Orlando is the fastest growing boot camp in the US currently. Advertise word of mouth, flyers, radio, hospital tours. They give out homework, they talk about gatekeeping, stressors, expectations, and how to be encouraged. Goals to increase involvement, education and decrease infant mortality. Discuss shaken baby syndrome and code words for stress and time outs. Grant on year 3 and hope to keep growing (need new revenue funding streams). The are on Face Book Boot Camp for New Dads, Orlando is how to find them. Healthystartorange.org website allows for registrations as well as via Facebook. All Seminole County locations offer the class once a month. FAMILY VOICE / FFCFL UPDATE The Federation of Central Florida holds a monthly meeting for Seminole County Families on the last Thursday of the month at the Casselberry Library from 5:30 pm 7:30 pm. Free dinner and childcare are provided. 2

3 Crystal Lily announced resource Fair p.m. See her to register by Friday. Donate an item and you are eligible for a free drawing. Free back packs to the first 200 who register. Cheryl Pry is the new family partner and was introduced. She is part of WRAP Seminole. Jennifer Sheffield spoke about the fundraiser. Macy s is the partner, Shop for a Cause. $5 pass (you can buy now until ) on you get 25% of lots of goodies at Macy s and all proceeds go to FoF. Good for any Macy s nationwide. Muriel Jones spoke about collaboration with Orange County for this effort. Gala fundraiser will be starting at 6:30 p.m. Cocktail hour to follow with a dinner. $150 per ticket. Sponsorship packages will be available. Ad space for a journal will also be sold. Will honor 3 community leaders and 2 families. Dr. Joel Hunter, Dick Bachelor and Judge Alicia Lattimore will be honored. Website also has info on sponsorship packages. New website is please visit it! Phebe Powell spoke at the last family meeting and how they can engage more in the cabinet. Barrier is time and day of meeting. Change Team Update Communications Communications Committee Meeting is held the Second Tuesday at Impower (new offices in 587 East SR 434, Suite 1021, Longwood, FL 32750) of every month at 11:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. Judy Creel presented. Cards are ready now for Save the Date WED :30-10:30 am for the Annual Meeting at the Seminole County School Board. They are updating the brochure. Please offer suggestions for improvement. Please visit the website is please let her know of any agency updates/corrections etc. Goal is for calendar to be live and active. They need content for the website. Meetings and Trainings are posted as well. Change team meetings are listed there as well. 3

4 200 visitors May-June 2013 timeframe. Want to add section about cabinet members only to highlight special updates. Working on ways to infuse SOC values to be infused into all member agencies. Goal to promote eliminating stigma to seeking and obtaining mental health services. FACTS/SOC (Families and Communities Together & System of Care) Tracy Pellegrino, Program Director for Families and Communities Together reported. Fiscal year starts in October. Reviewing past year and current expansions for new year. As a member change team participation in meetings is a must! is year 4 for WRAP/FACTS and SAMHSA will visit in this fiscal year. Your input is valuable make your voice heard. Added respite care services and sexual offending treatment therapists network is being expanded. Added options for summer camp and child care options for children. Youth Move and FoF have been a focus of expansion and inclusion. Trainings in the fall for CANS (National) and Epic will be launching the data system in late September. Proto type was viewed this past week. It looks great and will be a useful tool. Verlise Pender spoke about Youth Move. Friday is next event Be a Hero Anti bully rally. Flyer will be sent out to the cabinet. Guest speaker and a panel discussion will follow. Membership Membership Committee Meeting is held the First Friday of every month from 9:30 a.m. 10:30 a.m. at CBCCFL Service Center. Crystal Lilly reported. Please make sure you sign in for match and that your information is current! She has a list of change teams and descriptions to encourage involvement. She has copies of the membership agreements as well. 4

5 Research & Evaluation Community Focus: Research & Evaluation Meeting is held the First Wednesday of every month from 1:30 p.m. 3:00 p.m. at the Pathways Office AND the third Wednesday of every month combined with Community Focus 9:30 a.m. 11:30 a.m. at the Pathways Office. Special CANS meeting on the third Wednesday of the month at CBC Pelee Street Office. Dan Rodgers presented. Invitation to all to attend change team meetings. CANS being used at Seminole County JAC for DJJ youth. TASC evaluators are all trained. Community Focus Meeting is held 1 st Wednesday of every month at 10:15 a.m. at the CBC service center (Sanford Room). Heather Howlett presented. Reviewed the 5-year plan. Next month speaker will be a domestic violence provider at CBCCFL Service Center 10:15 a.m. Grants & Funding New Business Tasks are Resource Pointe, Support Child Abuse Prevention Efforts, making certain the community is trained on the 5 Protective Factors, Adoption Promotion & Support, as well as Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse Awareness. They also focus on the SOC and WRAP and currently they did a file review to make certain there are no gaps etc. Focus on family voice and choice, youth based, culturally competent and strength based, etc. to be certain the child/family is being served well by all 10 WRAP principles. We are half way through the 5 year plan. Data collecting procedures are occurring to tell us where we are at. Grants & Funding Meeting is held the Fourth Wednesday of every month from 2:00 p.m. 3:00 p.m. at Wraparound Orange. No report given/group not meeting at this time. Phebe Powell spoke about nominations for the Executive Team for upcoming elections (Vote in September for new 5

6 Old Business Announcements officers in October). Slate needs to be presented to the cabinet next month. Please let us know if you would like to serve. Nominate away! See Phebe for details. Felipe Sanchez present posters to the membership to promote cultural competence. He brought 30 for today for distribution. 2 sets are being distributed and a 3 rd one is in production for presentation in August (child specific). To get the posters you have to be a member of the cabinet in good standing. Please take and promote. They are good fro framing and mounting in your offices. See Felipe after the meeting for your bundle. More are available for purchase. He gave a demonstration of both posters. NDA behavioral health system (Mt Dora) residential center for children and adults that serve deaf and autistic persons as well as other behavioral disorders. New center being opened by SCSB a flyer will be forthcoming for the open house on For parents in the Northeast cluster of Sanford for 4 year olds. Heather Howlett Safety Practice Expert spoke about the Transformation Model that is now safety base instead of risk based. Very different process more information gathered at intake. Case management services reserved for families that really need the intervention/involvement. Muriel Jones thanked Jennifer Grant/ELC for space use for family meetings and Deb Driskell for free space through end of fiscal year (SBH). Next meeting should be at SCSO once again.
