1 A L - A N O N BITS Greater Seattle Al-Anon Intergroup Council Inc rd Ave Ste 803 Seattle WA MAR Feb The board has made the decision to eliminate the special worker office manager position. Thankfully, there is a core of volunteers who are willing to perform essential tasks and staff the office to provide open hours on s for now. The current office will be maintained as a book storage location through the end of the current lease (October 1, 2018) with a new facility under investigation. Current services will continue to be delivered by the existing volunteer system with books being shipped to purchasers as before. The new direction for AIS will be much more technology based with many of the old paper reports and the newsletter being delivered either as electronic files or through web based access. In keeping with the new direction, the BITS will shift to an online web format, removing the need to print and mail the number of copies handled in the past. The telephone volunteers will shift to remote service with the incoming calls redirected to the volunteer staffing any particular shift, removing the need for them to be physically in the office. We have open slots for phone shifts; please contact the phone volunteer coordinator if you are willing to help. The board realizes that this conversion from a part-time staffed office towards a virtual office may create some issues or problems, but that those can be corrected through timely adjustments to the new operating plan. The board is hopeful that membership will feed back any ideas or suggestions so that the operations can be more finely tailored to meet the fellowship s needs and expectations. Contents AIS Open Service Positions & Officer Contacts page 2 District Information page 2 From the Chair page 3 Donations & Financials page 4 Meeting Updates page 5 Flyers page 6 Calendar of Events page 7 NOTICE This will be the last hard copy of the BITS. We will be shifting to the new online format for the March issue. Please go to and select LITERATURE, then click on the BITS to view or download a copy from now on. Feel free to print a hard copy to take to your meetings. Thank you for your help and support throughout my year as the BITS editor. I have enjoyed the opportunity to be of service and to support the AIS mission of providing information to the fellowship of Seattle Al-Anon. 3 Feb 2018 From the Chair Page 3 When I first came into the program I was told that I could take brochures home to read and keep at my bedside, in the bathroom, in my purse, or wherever they would be most useful to me. The groups pay for the pamphlets but hand them out free to anyone attending a meeting. To the Parents of Alcoholics (P-16) was very helpful in my situation as the 15 page pamphlet talked about how many of us feel when we first come to Al-Anon because a child of ours is drinking uncontrollably. I was so relieved to read that my feelings were not unique for this situation. It talks a little about the facts of alcoholism and answers questions about where our responsibility lies when our child is underage or if they are over 18 or 21 years of age. The remaining pages are filled with 7 stories by parents who are in the Al-Anon program and how they coped.
