3 Nov 2017 Office News Page 3 AIS Office Seeking a New Location The AIS office lease is up in August The building is being sold. Rent is most certainly going to go up. We are considering our options, including seeking a new location. We are interested in the member s wish list for a possible new location for the AIS Office. The committee is brainstorming right now so all ideas are welcome. What would be the perfect location for the AIS Office? What would the office look like? Can you help us create a vision for the AIS Office going forward? Please send your comments to policy@seattle-al-anon.org Thank you, NOTES from the FUNDRAISING COORD Hello from the Fundraising Coordinator, and AIS Fall Auction Chair. At the time of the delivery of this BITS, the auction will be over, and we will have had a great fun time supporting our AIS Office. I want to heartily thank everyone, and there are many, that have stepped up to help us with our auction. We will get the results out as soon as we can. On another note, a reminder that we will need someone to step up as Fundraising Coordinator for next year, and an auction chair for next year s spring auction. I have loved doing this work the last few years, and will be around to help whoever steps up. I will definitely still be involved in Al-Anon. But I need this next year for me. Thank you all for letting me be of service to AIS and Al-Anon. Respectfully Submitted Mary R Fundraising Coordinator thespark@seattle-al-anon.org Bob F., Eliza D., and Elizabeth G., 2018 AIS Office Location Committee Greetings from the Office NOTES from the OFFICE Books and pamphlets are in good supply. Meeting directories have been very popular! They are free if you drop in, included with each Newcomer Packet, and available whenever you order literature. Just ask!! Many changes are on the Horizon for the Office. The Vance Building has a buyer and our relocation committee is looking. Please contact them directly with questions and suggestions: policy@seattle-al-anon.org. We have just received the new Paths to Recovery Workbook in Spanish. There is an ample supply in English as well. Give your group literature person a gratitude. They have phoned, driven or walked in to get books for your group!! AIS office closes at noon on Weds Nov 22 for Thanksgiving and reopens Monday Nov 27. Look for the Thanksgiving Meetings flyer in this BITS. Yours in Service and Gratitude Sandy L Special Worker ais@seattle-al-anon.org NOTES from the BITS EDITOR On Page 5 there is a new space titled How Al-Anon works for me and I m asking for help to fill it. When my 20-year marriage ended, I couldn t think of anything else to do so I started working the steps again against the emotional devastation I felt. I began as my program many years ago mentors taught me that by changing the first step slightly to read: I am powerless over [whatever issue was troubling me at that time] and my life has become unmanageable I could apply my program to more than just the alcoholic. Whenever I felt overwhelmed by my situation I went back to I am powerless over this relationship and my life has become unmanageable to help me let go of my need to force the situation into the ending that I wanted. The Al-Anon opening includes the statement ~ Our thinking becomes distorted by trying to force solutions, and we become irritable and unreasonable without knowing it. ~ My focused first step statement helped me to stop trying to force a solution. It also helped me recognize when I became irritable and to stop being unreasonable. For me the power of Al-Anon is its ability to flexibly fit so many different situations and to help me find serenity in a chaotic world.
