2 Page 2 DECC Relaunches Big Energy Saving Network with 1.7m The Department of Energy and Climate Change has relaunched its 1.7 million energy advice grants programme and is currently accepting applications from third sector organisations in England, Scotland and Wales. Following the success of the first three years of the Big Energy Saving Network, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has launched the application process for grant funding of the 2016/17 programme. The programme is jointly funded by DECC and National Energy Action. The 1.7 million programme of training, support and grant funding is for legally constituted third sector organisations and community groups to deliver an extensive programme of outreach to vulnerable consumers, focused on helping them reduce their energy costs through assisted action on tariffs, switching and the take up of energy efficiency offers. The programme has two objectives, which are: To provide assisted action for the maximum number of vulnerable consumers possible with the funding available, helping them save money on their energy costs through attendance at BESN Champion and/or Volunteer led outreach sessions. To deliver a training programme to frontline workers who come into regular contact with vulnerable consumers, in order that they can give direct help and advice to clients to help them save money on their energy costs where practical. Each grant award is for a total of 5,000 per 'Champion', which is made up of an initial 4,000 grant to be followed by a further payment of up to 1,000 if the agreed objectives of the grant are met in full. The funding can be used for staff costs, venue hire, publicity, printing, IT, translation costs, travel and other associated expenses to run events and/or make home visits. The outreach programme will run through autumn/winter 2016/17, with outreach activity concluding on 24 March There are two deadlines:- 8 July 2016 for print applictions delivered either by post or by hand and 10 July 2016 (midnight) for applications submitted by . Full details can be found at: The Big Music Project The BIG Music Project (TBMP) is now in its third phase and is open for applications from Youth Scotland member groups. TBMP equips young people with the skills and knowledge they need to create a successful future within the music and creative industries, as well as building their general employability skills. Youth Scotland is offering organisations working with young people in each region of Scotland the chance to become a BIG Music Project hub and enjoy being part of an exciting UK-wide music network. Access these amazing opportunities with The Big Music Project and Youth Scotland: Small grants funding to the tune of 3,740 Performance opportunities for your group's young musicians A residential event Training for youth workers and young people Accreditation for young people via the Dynamic Youth Awards and Youth Achievement Awards Career opportunities and access to mentors in the music business Support from a dedicated TBMP development worker The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 10 June. If you have any questions about The Big Music Project, please drop us a line on or contact Fiona Muir, Development Worker via fiona.muir@youthscotland.org.uk The online application form is available at: YOUR VIEW COUNTS Police Scotland Public Consultation Survey I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Divisional Policing Commander for Tayside. As a fellow resident of Tayside I am keen that my officers listen, and respond, to the concerns of people who live in Angus, Dundee and Perth and Kinross. To enable that, we have created a new online public consultation survey questionnaire, hosted on the front page of the Police Scotland website at - Scotland.Police.Uk/yourviewcounts The survey seeks YOUR views on what concerns you in your local area and what you think that Police Scotland should focus on. The survey is easy to complete, takes a few minutes and we will use your views to evidence local policing priorities. The survey is open 24/7, all year round. We particularly value the views of the Third Sector and Voluntary Organisations and seek your support to spread this message to your groups and networks asking people to complete the survey. Please help us by taking a few minutes to complete the survey. Paul Anderson Chief Superintendent Police Scotland

3 Page 3 Food Memories, Tips and Recipes Food Buddies develops peer support for people in Scottish Borders who have dementia and for their carers around food and keeping well shopping, cooking, eating at home and eating out. There will be activities in local areas, starting in Peebles in early 2016 and then using the experience and examples from there to build more activities in other areas. The project also aims to raise awareness about the importance of food for people with dementia and their carers, how people s needs change and what families and others in the community can do to make it easier for people who are affected by dementia. This will enable us to reach more people with dementia and their carers as well as building the capacity of others in the wider community. Sharing experiences and helpful tips We are beginning to gather tips from people about ways to make shopping, cooking and eating easier for people with dementia and for their carers. Stories of using memories to help people enjoy food Memories where food was an important part of someone s life Tips on ways to help people enjoy food when they are finding it more difficult, or that make life easier. Recipes that are good for people with dementia and their carers easy to make, or good when someone has less of an appetite or wants different tastes, for example. How people can help us Tell us your experiences and examples. Ask other people you know for their memories, tips or recipes. Share your ideas with each other and then tell us. Photographs and short video clips are very welcome.
