3 It s normal for child care providers to have mixed feelings about parents. Sometimes parents have mixed feelings about their childcare providers. A workshop offered on Thurs., Oct. 22, from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm at the Guthrie County Extension Office will address these feelings. Parents: Friends or Parents: Friends or Foes Foes, a workshop for child care providers and teachers, will help providers and teachers identify their own feelings about working with parents. Participants will also review the stages of parent development, and potential communication strategies. Dr. David Brown, ISU Extension Family Life Program Specialist, will be teaching this workshop. Registration is $10 & payable to the Guthrie Co. Extension office by Oct. 22. Child care providers & teachers are encouraged to also register via Iowa Child Care Training Registry at ccmis.dhs.state.ia.us/ trainingregistry/. Two hours of licensing credit will be available. For more information, call Take Precautions for Safe Fall Harvest Harvest is historically the most dangerous time of the year for farmers. Remember to regularly read instruction manuals about potential dangers of farm equipment and be diligent in preventing farm injuries. Reading manuals are often overlooked and seem tedious, however, these manuals can increase a person s safety and well-being. A good example is, air-compressor equipment manuals usually contain warning notices to alert operators that failure to remove condensation will cause the tank to rust prematurely, although this may be viewed as an unnecessary task. If these manual procedures are not followed, there is a serious potential for injury. Over time, internal rusting weakens the tank, potentially creating a violent explosion. When under pressure, pieces of the tank will become projectiles that can inflict or cause damage. No one can predict when a rustweakened tank will explode and where pieces of the tank may fly. Farmers and agriculture professionals need to realize that reading and following operation and instruction manuals can prevent injuries, such as an air-compressor tank explosion. The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts Have a safe and prosperous harvest!
