2 From the President & the Editor Dear Members and Friends, Our holiday party is a celebration of our accomplishments

Following the event, we are usually busy with family and friends, and the party affords us an opportunity to celebrate

That special night we were reminded of how much we mean to each other and cherish each other s love and friendship.

2 2 From the President & the Editor Dear Members and Friends, Our holiday party is a celebration of our accomplishments as much as our welcoming the new year. Following the event, we are usually busy with family and friends, and the party affords us an opportunity to celebrate the upcoming holidays together. That special night we were reminded of how much we mean to each other and cherish each other s love and friendship. It also gave us an opportunity to share our bounty with the less fortunate, which was a great way to brighten our spirits as we prepared to celebrate those whom we love. 3 3 PAOS Holiday Party PAOS Night The garlands were hung by hooks everywhere in hopes that PAOS members soon would be there. Music from Miami Jazz Force filled the air while members put platters of food here and there. The faces were rosy, all eyes were a twinkle and when members saw orchids there arose such a clatter the President came to see what was the matter. There were ribbons and raffles and tickets galore and when the evening was over and all drove out of sight, I swear I heard everyone say they had a good night! Gail Weber- PAOS Holiday Party was made extra special by our meetings host, Pinecrest Gardens. They create an evening holiday wonderland every year for the community. Nights of Lights runs from November through January, and this it was presented by the Live Like Bella Foundation for Childhood Cancer. The Gardens were open for our group to enjoy at no extra cost to those attending our event. The images throughout this issue were taken by Joan Manley and myself. It is a pity we could not bring you also a sampling of the delightful live music performed during dinner. Time to reminisce. Georgia 1st Vice President

He saw the creation of OrchidMania, a not for profit, as a mean to tie his love of orchids with his passion and dedication to children and young adults infected with and affected by AIDS. The goal of OR- CHIDMANIA is to provide support to grassroots AIDS prevention and relief organizations. NEXT MEETING Tuesday, Jan 21 at 7:00 p.m. Pinecrest Gardens Hibiscus Room Red Road Pinecrest, Florida Mr. Lamazares orchid workshops, presentations and sales throughout the State of Florida, serve as a vehicle to not only encourage interest and enthusiasm for orchids but as a positive message for anyone who wants to donate their time and talents to AIDS relief. During our January meeting, PAOS members and guests will hear Alex s no-nonsense approach to the growing and caring of orchids and will be able to enjoy a presentation on Maintenance: Repotting and General Care. This presentation was part of talks he gave at the 2008 World Orchid Congress held in Miami Beach.

5 5 The Tamiami International Orchid Festival is upon us. PAOS has been invited to participate in the display contest we have won a few awards there and we are listed for the exhibit and Membership Drive. Events like this one are an opportunity to set ourselves apart. Not only for the display contest, but because we can show others how committed we are to our orchid society. We invite you to come forward during our meeting and accept our invitation to volunteer. There will be opportunities for manning our table and telling people all about PAOS, donating plants for the display, helping set up and take-down. During these activities we make contact with colleagues, vendors and increase our opportunities for bringing meaningful speakers to our gatherings, developing ties with growers, etc. And if you cannot volunteer, make sure to come and enjoy the classes and deals offered during the festival.
