1 IMPORTANT ELECTIONS INFORMATION: CAADAC FULL MEMBERS ONLY! It s that time again - election time! The easiest way for members to vote is on the web. However, since we recognize that may not be feasible for everyone, you have the option to vote by paper ballot. Please note that you must request your paper ballot ASAP (no later than 11/30/2013.) You may fax or your request for a paper ballot to the office at (fax) or by ing: pnielsen@caadac.org. All full members were sent a notification of the elections via USPS to the address on file at the office. (Post card below was mailed.) Note, the post card below describes how to vote on the web. You will find the link and directions below. Please note, polls opened on November 16h, 2013 at 8AM (PST) and close on December 31, 2013 at 11:59 PM (PST). 2 2013 CCBADC CANDIDATE STATEMENTS (Candidates below have been nominated to serve on the CCBADC Board) CAADAC BOARD CANDIDATES REGION 1 SOUTH Jason Allison - statement submitted REGION 1 NORTH Christy Lennox Brock Hello my fellow CAADAC friends! My name is Christy Lennox-Brock, and I am honored to be nominated for North region one board member. My desire to become a substance abuse counselor started in 2007 and my journey began in 2008 when I enrolled at Riverside Intercoast College, soon after graduating I became employed full time at a facility in Murrieta CA, where I gained most of my experience working with adults who struggle with their addictions, Co-Occurring disorders and much more...i m currently CADCII working as a substance abuse counselor at Wonderful facility in Riverside CA, where I am continuing my experience and gaining my skills. My goals are to continue my education and go further with my career while being dedicated to CAADAC members. I will maintain high ethical standards while being at service to the best of my abilities for Region one North/CAADAC. Thank you! REGION 2 NORTH Miguel Palos My name is Miguel Palos and I am running for the Regional Director for the 2N region. I currently work at the Gary Center in Santa Ana as a group facilitator for our adolescent and adult programs. I also provide the groups for our Spanish speaking population. I have over 6 years of experience in the Substance abuse profession working at various facilities in Southern California. I have been a CADC II since I also was a past IC&RC oral board commissioner and served as a proctor for the IC&RC written exam from I also served as the Intercoast College Alumni Chairman for the West Covina Campus from , helping former and current students in the Alcohol & Drug Counseling Program in reaching towards their certification. I also volunteered in 2012 as a Family Service Volunteer for an agency that helps children with cancer and their families. If elected for this position I plan on strengthening the programs and services in my region as well as the CAADAC mission. I also plan on providing the development and ensuring that the region will be appropriately managed with the highest standards possible. 3 CAADAC BOARD CANDIDATES REGION 2 SOUTH Andrew Martin Andrew is presently employed at Serene Recovery Network as President/CEO which includes Serene Center, Serene Connections, Serene Foundation, and Serene Directory. Andrew is an MBA, LAADC, SAP, CA- CCS and has been working in the field for over seven years. He has served three terms as the CAADAC Region 2S Director REGION 3 NORTH REGION 3 SOTUH REGION 4 NORTH REGION 4 CENTRAL No Candidate REGION 4 SOTUH REGION 5 Walter Pedersen I began my career path in January on 2005 when I enrolled in the Chemical Dependency Counseling curriculum at Yuba college. In May of 2006 I received my certificate of completion for the Chemical Dependency Counseling curriculum at Yuba college. In May of 2007 I graduated Yuba college with an Associates degree. I am currently in a bachelor s program in business. From November 1 of 2004 until May 1, 2005 I managed a clean and sober living house in Yuba City. In May of 2005 I went to work at Pathways residential treatment home in Marysville as a staff assistant. In July of 2006 I was hired by Community Recovery Resources as a counselor intern where I am still employed today. My current certifications are, LAADC, CADC II, and I am also a Certified Domestic Violence Facilitator, and a member in good standing with CAADAC. I was appointed to the Board of Directors with CAADAC in January of 2011 and have enjoyed serving on the board ever since. I am committed to serving the CAADAC membership to the best of my ability.

4 CAADAC BOARD CANDIDATES TREASURER Rosemarie Wheeler Rosemarie Wheeler, CADC II, ICADC, BS. Rosemarie is currently working as Program Manager for Day By Day IOP, Inc. in Murrieta, California. She is helping to bring clients through sobriety with the renowned Matrix System. She has worked as a counselor and case manager for the past four years with two other companies. She supervises interns in their externships, helping to guide them in the profession. She has also served on the CAADAC board as Regional Director for the past three years, serving her region by bringing exciting and educational workshops to the members. She is also certified to help counselors prepare for the written exam. Rosemarie would like to serve as treasurer to help carry on the high standards and legacy that CAADAC has brought for its members. She is excited to be a part of the momentous future that CAADAC and CAAR will bring to the profession.

5 CCBADC BOARD CANDIDATES REGION 1 NORTH Nathaniel Tollefson Nathaniel Tollefson, CADC II, SBHS is currently the Supervising Behavioral Health Specialist for Riverside County Substance Abuse Programs Drinking Driver Program/Start Team. Mr. Tollefson works extensively with substance abuse and mental health clients and has over 18 years experience working in our profession. Nathaniel started his career working for Sun Ray Addictions Counseling and Education working with Riverside County Superior Courts, Probation and Child Protection Services, and for the last 13 years he has been working for Riverside County Mental Health Department, Substance Abuse Programs out of Hemet California. Mr. Tollefson has been instrumental in helping to developed and implement the Southwest Criminal Drug Court program Southwest Recovery Opportunity Center out of Murrieta California. Mr. Tollefson has been a liaison within the community to further build positive relationships between community members and treatment providers. Mr. Tollefson is an active member of the Contract Monitoring Team of Riverside County and has volunteered his service with the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI). Nathaniel volunteers as a proctor for the IC&RC written exams and conference committee member for Southern California area Region1 North. Nathaniel Tollefson goals are to continue to help establish and enact standards for recertification, policies and procedures, continuing education requirements for AODA professionals and enhance our organization s public standing. REGION 4S Paul Buzz Marston Buzz Marston is the Executive Director of Research West Behavioral Health Services in Los Gatos, CA and is seeking re-election to the CCBADC Board in region 4S. Buzz started his clinical work at Good Samaritan Hospital, Behavioral Health Services (Psych/CD) in 1994 as an Intern while attending the University of California, Santa Cruz. Buzz worked his way up to become clinical manager of the Behavioral Health Services department at Good Samaritan as well as the Chemical Dependency Program in the ten years he spent at GSH. Buzz opened the private practice of Research West Behavioral Health Services in July of 2004 in Los Gatos, CA and has continually been seeing clients at the same location as well as supervising other counselors. Research West BHS is now a successful Group Practice with three other licensed and certified personnel sharing the practice and is a CAADAC Agency Member. Buzz received his first certificate as a CADC II in 1998 and is working on his licensure as a LAADC. Buzz was one of the first in California to receive his IS-E endorsement, which serves as an endorsement through CAADAC as an intervention specialist, although he has been successfully conducting interventions since Buzz has served on the on the Board of Directors of the California Certification Board of Alcohol & Drug Counselors (CCBADC) for the past three years. He is also on the Board of We Care a non-profit health care professionals organization serving medical professionals with substance abuse. Buzz works as an advisor/instructor to various law enforcement agencies on Crisis Intervention. In the past three years on the CCBADC, we have implemented some cutting edge programs such as the LAADC licensure and other very progressive ideas through the processes of the Board, which benefit CAADAC as a whole. I will strive to get more training and focus on the members throughout region 4S and would very much like to continue this as your Board member for another three years with your support. With the consolidation of CAADAC and CAARR into the new CCAPP organization upon us, our work is very important over the next three years.

6 CCBADC BOARD CANDIDATES REGION 4 SOUTH Marian Lamon My name is Marian Lamon and I am a resident of San Jose, CA. I have been employed as a Counselor II for the past 8 years with Gardner Family Care. During this time I have worked in Perinatal Substance abuse with women and children and became accredited as a Triple P Practioner specializing in parenting skills for families that might be at risk. I have been employed as a Treatment Readiness Coordinator and Program Director in San Mateo County for a woman s residential and transitional programs. I have over 16 years of experience in the helping field. I have been credentialed as a CADC II since In addition, I am a credentialed LADC, CCJP & WTS. The goals that I would have for this Region is to provide CEU/PDH opportunities in this region, Foster harmony & good relationships with the CCBADC and other organizations to promote the advancement of our profession, provide guidance and act as a liaison to the region, including students and New Interns and raise public/community awareness of our profession/services.
