6 Speakers and Presenters Margaret Trudeau Keynote Speaker, Celebrated Canadian & Advocate Margaret Trudeau is a Canadian icon, celebrated both for her role in the public eye and as a respected mental-health issues advocate. From becoming a prime minister s wife at a young age, to the loss of both her son and her former husband, to living with bi-polar disorder, Margaret tirelessly shares her personal stories to remind others of the importance of nurturing the body, mind, and spirit. Bruno Guevremont Keynote Speaker, Bell Let s Talk Spokesperson Northwestel is honoured to host Bell Let s Talk Ambassador, Bruno Guevremont, during Mental Illness Awareness Week. He is a Veteran, Entrepreneur, North Pole Explorer, Invictus Games Ambassador, keynote speaker and stigma-smashing mental health advocate. After 15 years and two tours in Afghanistan with the anti-explosives team he is no stranger to the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder and mental illness. Ryan McMahon Keynote Speaker Ryan McMahon is an Anishinaabe comedian, writer, media maker & community activator based out of Treaty #1 territory (Winnipeg, MB). One of the most decorated Indigenous comedians/writers/media makers working today, Ryan s voice has become vital to both Indigenous & non-indigenous communities his comedic storytelling style is fast-paced, loose & irreverent as he explores the good, the bad & the ugly between Indigenous Country & the mainstream.
7 Speakers and Presenters Renee Linklater Renee Linklater, PhD is a member of Rainy River First Nations in Northwestern Ontario. She has over 20 years of experience working with Aboriginal healing agencies and First Nation communities. Renee has worked across the health and education sectors as a frontline worker, program evaluator, curriculum developer, educator/trainer, and researcher. She is an international speaker on trauma and healing and is the author of Decolonizing trauma work: Indigenous stories and strategies. Renee is the Director of Aboriginal Engagement and Outreach for the Provincial System Support Program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and is actively involved in several system level initiatives across the province. Photo Credit: - Kayley Inuksuk Mackay Angela Hovak Johnston Angela Hovak Johnston is an Inuk woman who was raised on the land in the Kitikmeot region until she was sent away at the age of 7. Now living in Yellowknife. She prefers to use her Inuinnaqtun name Hovak given to her at birth as a way to carry on a past relative s name and the characteristic of her ancestor. Hovak has a deep connection to her culture, traditional arts, and skills. In October of 2016 she was shortlisted for the Arctic Inspiration Prize for her Inuit tattoo revitalization project, which is an initiative to help Inuit women get traditional markings and symbols, and learn how to tattoo. Johnston was one of the eight finalist for the over $1 million total prize money that was awarded. In June Johnston received a Meritorious Service Medal from the Governor General for creating the Inuit Tattoo Revitalization Project. In the past year through the project, she has either tattooed or has directly overseen others tattooing more than 80 Inuit women, which includes more than 25 women in Nunavut with traditional facial tattoos.
8 Speakers and Presenters NWT Recreation and Parks Association Through On the Land Programs, the NWTRPA supports community leaders in creating and sustaining activities and programs that help people: Feel confident and safe in the outdoors; Develop a connection to their cultural heritage; Experience on-the-land learning; and Have fun! NWTRPA offer risk management packages and workshops, Paddle Canada canoe certifications, Red Cross wilderness and remote first aid, winter safety and survival workshops, and GPS workshops. They also support the planning and delivery of landbased programs. The NWT On The Land Collaborative The NWT On The Land Collaborative, Brings together government, charitable, corporate, and other partners to combine efforts and make it easier for communities to access money and resources for on the land projects. 10 Connecting Across Generations: Elder and Youth Panel Discussion Moderated by Ryan McMahon William Carlick Kwanlin Dün First Nation Elder William Carlick is the son of Angel Tom of the Kaska Nation and Wilson Carlick of the Tahltan Nation. Carlick spent part of his life in residential school but he remembers spending summers at home with his family. After graduation, he met his wife of 39 years; Kimberly Carlick. He was an electrician with the City of Whitehorse for around 30 years and in March of 2017 was appointed as an elder councillor for the Kwanlin Dün Council. He is an advocate for healing using singing and drumming, and was a driving force behind the Healing Canoe that was carved in Whitehorse and paddled to Dawson City for the bi-annual Moosehide gathering. Agnes Mills National Native Addictions Partnership Foundation, National Elder Agnes Mills is an elder from the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation and is an outspoken advocate for families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Her lifelong commitment has been in pursuit of improving mental wellness for Indigenous people within the Yukon and is currently the National Elder for the National Native Addictions Partnership Foundation.
11 Connecting Across Generations: Elder and Youth Panel Discussion Moderated by Ryan McMahon Blake Lepine Cacross/Tagish First Nation Tlingit, Han, and Cree Sculptor and Painter Blake Lepine was born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon. He obtained his education over the course of five years in Victoria from Pacific Rim College an integrative and complimentary school of alternative medicine. There, he was trained with clinical experience in medical Herbalism and holistic nutrition. His experience led him to apply this knowledge to youth addictions and wellness of the Esquimalt First Nation working at the Victoria Native Friendship Centre. Having returned home, he now works on the community level offering workshops and training to his home community of Carcross. Blake is also a performing and visual artist, applying his knowledge to his experience with his art, and is a full time dancer with the Dahkhá Kwáan Dancers. Angela Code Sayisi Dene First Nation Angela Mary Code was born in Churchill, Manitoba. She spent her childhood in her home Sayisi Dene reserve at Tadoule Lake, Manitoba. There, she was surrounded by deneyatiye (Chipewyan language), dene culture, family and community of her people. At the age of 10, Angela and her family moved to Whitehorse, Yukon. Months following her high-school graduation in 2005, Angela began her post-secondary education at the University of British Columbia. After a couple of years, Angela took time off school to work, be with family and to travel. She later returned to UBC and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a Major in First Nation Studies and a Minor in First Nation Languages & Linguistics. Angela recently directed her first feature length documentary film entitled We Are Our Language. Angela also worked as the Whitehorse Outreach Coordinator at BYTE (a Whitehorse based youth organization). Angela s future career goals include using her skills as a filmmaker, activist and artist to promote youth empowerment, Indigenous languages, cultures, wellbeing and sustainability.
12 Innovation Project Presentations Skookum Jim Friendship Centre: Art Based Youth Wellness Initiative The purpose of this project is to engage youth in Yukon Communities in positive identity development through artistic expression. Creating a space where the participants are able to shape their own narrative and expressive form based on the content of their lived experience. The initiative aims to empower youth to move from a passive to an active position in shaping their individual, familial and community identities. Coalition of Mental Health Professionals Yukon: Transgender, Two Spirit and Gender Non-Conforming Sensitivity Initiative Strengthening transgender, Two-Spirit and gender non-conforming sensitivity in the Yukon by offering trans-sensitive counselling programs as well as building capacity in communities to provide support through the Gender Sensitivity Development Initiative. BYTE: Youth Empowering Youth: Skills for Rural Youth in Sexual and Mental Health The project, in partnership with Blood Ties Four Directions Centre, aims to deliver two day Empowerment workshops for youth aged and The workshop will give youth the tools and skills crucial to their overall wellbeing (mental, emotional, physical and spiritual). Topics include; healthy relationships, safe partying, sexual health and consent, decision making and leadership. This project will be delivered in 8 communities. Carcross Tagish First Nation: Family Wellness Circles Through the identification of family wellness as the core of wellness within the community, the project will train and coach members of the community to convene and facilitate Family Wellness Circles. The goal is to build capacity and improve access to mental health services among First Nations people across the lifespan.
13 Innovation Project Presentations Yukon Inter Agency Network on Disability: Support Worker Core Competency Training The objective of the project is to establish clear, practical and conceptual training information for individuals working with people with disabilities. It will assist in establishing a common language, set of skills and collective recognition of the impact that our staff s ethics, boundaries, and wellness have on the programs that are provided to the community at large. Youth of Today Society - Shakat - An Elder & Youth education publication. A Journal of traditional stories told by Elders and interviewed by youth. This program is a multi-media program that offers youth experience in video and video editing, sound recording and story writing. Youth are treated with photo and video workshops, event access to record and document. This unique opportunity allows youth to be involved with current history and ever changing growth with First Nation successes. Our goal is to have youth tell their story the way that only they can.

Diyet s live performances provide an intimate and uplifting experience as she invites her guests into a soundscape of rhythm, melody and storytelling. With a resonant voice that captures the spirit, Diyet is a contemporary artist whose music leaves listeners with a sense of hope and possibility. Kevin Barr and Friends Kevin first picked up a guitar at the age of 9 and has been playing professionally for the past 35 years. His repertoire is vast and varied, from 3 tours in Europe with the Undertakin Daddies to opening for the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, BJ Thomas and Ian Tyson; he has also shared the stage with Peter Roewen of New Riders of the Purple Sage, KD Lang, Willie P. Bennett, Penny Lang and Phill Lloyd. Kevin is a well known face at festivals across Canada and the US along with sharing album credits on many prestigious recordings.
