Over the years, thousands of people have been trained as Nobody s Perfect facilitators and many thousands of parents have participated in the program across Canada. NPP Manitoba is working towards a community of practice model by creating a collaborative network for family programs facilitators. Join us to share and learn from one another! 3 THE PROGRAM: Day 1 JANUARY : This is Manitoba s first chance receive the Super Dads Super Kids program training! Brian Russell from Dad Central Ontario Super Dads Super Kids is a father-child interaction program that is designed to strengthen the relationship between dads and their kids. It focuses on activities they can share AND gives the dads some quality parenting information on topics such as setting limits, emotional health, injury prevention, and communication. It provides an overview of father-focused attachment theory and research, exposes you to the content and discussion materials in the manual, and allows for discussion about outreach and best practices. This full day training will help you understand the importance and context of the father-child bond and give you all you need to know to deliver Super Dads in your community. Come to learn more on how to engage fathers with their children alongside our Community Dad Volunteers from our Dads engaging Dads Winnipeg Foundation Project! to FEBRUARY : KEYNOTE: 9:00 am to 4:30 pm daily Brian Russell Dad Central. Brian will discuss attachment theory and fatherhood and how research shows that the attachment process for children with their Dad is through play. He will also highlight the Daddy and Me: On the Move tool kit which is based on his writing for the Best Start Resource Centre. FEATURE: The Red Nose Diaries will entertain you and then lead you through a journey of new icebreakers, energizers and other ways to make any group or meeting fun and engaging! KNOWLEDGE SHARING: Day 2 Learn from these interactive sessions, led by practitioners from a variety of organizations, on Mental Health, Family literacy, working with Newcomers, screen time for kids and parents and how incarcerated parents participate in parent programs. Plus, highlights from the Mothers and Daughters in Touch and Father Figures Matter programs and Nobody s Perfect. 4 THE KEYNOTES: BRIAN RUSSELL is the Provincial Coordinator for Dad Central Ontario, which is devoted to promoting responsible father involvement in Ontario and has acted as a catalyst for other provinces to form their own regional father initiatives. He also runs a small counselling practice, where he focuses on supporting men, marriages, and families to have strong and safe relationships. Brian will be leading the Super Dads Super Kids Program training on January 31 st, and is our keynote on February 1 st. (See registration for more information on his content) THE RED NOSE DIARIES is Winnipeg s own hottest Clown Duo. (They are also drama educators too!) The Red Nose Diaries (Spenser Payne & Alissa Watson) was formed after several summers of training with John Turner (Mump & Smoot) at the Manitoulin Conservatory for Creation and Performance. They have performed at the Winnipeg and Edmonton Fringe Festivals, Sarasvàti FemFest, Canada Summer Games Festival, in multiple cabarets and also with The Talentless Lumps. The Red Nose Diaries will be entertaining you on February 1 st, and they will be teaching you some new energizers and other fun games! KNOWLEDGE SHARING DAY PROGRAM: (DAY 2 - FEBRUARY 1 ST ) MENTAL HEALTH Self-Regulation and Stress Management By: Mosaic Newcomer Family Resource Network We will help you to help parents understand the importance of recognizing the effects of stress and learn strategies to manage emotions. Learn how to explore stress and emotion regulation by applying the Experiential Learning Cycle. You will experience a hands-on activity that will model how you would deliver this topic to parents. EARLY LITERACY Building Blocks: Promoting Early Literacy By: Bookmates Inc We will provide practical skills and strategies service providers can use to engage the families they are working with. Highlights include: Defining family literacy and providing background as to why it is integral to a child s learning journey Sharing strategies for engaging families in literacy opportunities at home and in their community Providing resources (such as rhyme booklets, early learning activity suggestions) for participants to share with families Learning objectives: To increase awareness of ways to help families engage with their children through day-to-day literacy activities To emphasize that we need to work together as a community to encourage families to support literacy in the home well before a child gets to school.

5 FANTATASTIC FACILITATION The Power of Play By: Carmen Paterson-Payne, Nobody s Perfect Master Trainer and NPP Manitoba and Dad Central Coordinator Carmen will facilitate an interactive session full of concrete ideas and suggestions to use within parenting programs. Through the power of play and innovative practices of group facilitation, workshop participants will leave revitalized with practical activities and adaptation tools that they can use in their groups. Participants will discover that when adults are involved and having fun, they are more likely to be engaged and motivated to learn. Learning Objectives: Increased awareness of Nobody s Perfect parenting program and how its program objectives help encourage parents to attend other family resource programs as well. Increased awareness of facilitation techniques that can be used when offering parenting programs. Increased awareness on ways to help parents reduce screen time KNOWLEDGE SHARING CAFÉ Mothers and Daughters in Touch By: Youville Centre Supporting the mother daughter relationship during the middle years. Learn about a program that has been designed to be delivered in many different types of communities. Find out what the evaluation results say about program impact on the mother/daughter relationship. Learning objectives: Learn how the program came to be. Get a snap shot of what the program looks like. Review results from the formal program evaluation. Explore how you can bring the program into your community. Working with Incarcerated Parents By: a WestMan Corrections Facilitator Facilitators of parent-child programs are in a unique position to impact parenting while parents are incarcerated. Learn what this facilitator does to support and strengthen parents while they are away from their families. Father Figures Matters by: Seven Oaks School Division Seven Oaks School Division offers a program called Father Figures Matter. In this program we have engaged Dads, Grandfathers, Foster Parents, Step-Dads and family friends in strengthening their relationships with their children. The program goal has been to expand knowledge about the influence father figures can have on the health and wellbeing of children in their care and influence. Our facilitators have attended many of the workshops that Dad Central has offered over the years. They have adapted the information for our community context and developed their own take on supporting those Father Figures in furthering their knowledge and skills in building relationships with children. We would like to share our experiences, activities, what we have learned and what we hope to learn in offering this type of programming. Plus! Addictions Foundation of Manitoba Working with parents of middle years children? What services are available for youth? What information should you know to help guide parents? AFM will also share information to facilitators on what to do or where to go if a parent is concerned about their spouse/partner addiction.
