2 WHAT S NEW IN Wright House HAVE YOU SEEN OUR NEWEST UPGRADES? By Lindsey A. Lecus of Chi Omega This summer, Wright House got some amazing new upgrades! Thanks to a fundraiser hosted by the previous Greek Life Staff and to many generous donations from family, friends, and our community, we were able to purchase a brandnew refrigerator, stove, and range for our kitchen. We were also able to do some painting in the house that has made it more beautiful than ever! Already, our appliances have been put to good use. The Panhellenic Council hosted a Craft Night where they made pizzas in the oven, the water filter on the fridge is always being used as people pass through, and even the new freezer has been put to good use. Be sure to go check out the upgrades the next time you re in Wright House. We hope they make it just a little more fun for everyone to enjoy our home! 2

3 Philanthropy Showcase WHO HAVE WE HELPED THIS MONTH? FIGHTING HUNGER alpha gamma delta NEON NIGHT RUN alpha xi delta The women of Alpha Xi Delta recently hosted their Neon Night Run to benefit Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks is an inspiring organization that is dedicated to enhancing lives today and accelerating a spectrum of solutions tomorrow. The 5K run and 3K walk took place on October 27th. Carroll University president, Dr. Gnadinger, who is an alumna of Alpha Xi Delta, also made an appearance at this fun event. The month of October was very busy for the women of Alpha Gamma Delta as they continued to focus on their new philanthropy, Fighting Hunger. They are currently preparing for a large philanthropic event, Fight Hunger with Funny. This event will be co-hosted with Funny Bone Mafia and The Carroll Players. It will be held on November 11th at 8pm in the Otteson Theatre. The first 100 people to donate a non-perishable item will receive a free t-shirt! Alpha Gamma Delta looks forward to making a meaningful contribution to the Waukesha community. BRAT FRY FOR A CAUSE pi lamda phi On October 21st, Pi Lamda Phi hosted a fundraiser at a local Pick N Save where they sold hot dogs, brats, and drinks in order to raise money for their philanthropy. In just four hours, they were able to raise over $120 that will go towards the Elimination of Prejudice. Way to go, gentlemen! 3

4 Greeks of the Month BRYCE PIERSON pi lamda phi CHRISTINA SMOK alpha xi delta Congratulations to Bryce Pierson of Pi Lambda Phi and Christina Smok of Alpha Xi Delta on being awarded the Greeks of the Month! Bryce and Christina are both very involved members in their own chapter, and also the Greek community. Bryce shared that he joined Greek life for the philanthropy and campus involvement. Christina said her favorite part of Greek life would be all the close friendships she s made with her sisters. Alternative Spring Break By Lauren McKevitt of AGD Alternative Spring Breaks are an opportunity for students to travel outside of the Carroll community at a discounted price during our time off of class. ASBs have an emphasis on service and education with the three tenants of give, serve, and learn. Several organizations host trips all over the country to provide an opportunity to students to travel and experience a new culture, give back to the community, meet and create friendships with other students, and perhaps learn something new about themselves along the way. CAN YOU GUESS WHERE WE RE GOING THIS YEAR? Can you guess where Student Activities Greek Life is going on our Alternative Spring Break for 2018? Here s some clues: It is the home of an annual event nicknamed The Most Exciting Two Minutes In Sports. Ernie Banks, Derek Jeter, and Alex Rodriguez are said to have used a famous product manufactured in this city. The city was also named after the last King of France. 5

6 Almuni Spotlight By Caitlyn Kiger of AGD On this month s edition of Greek Alumni in the Spotlight, we have interviewed Kay Saguiped, an Alpha Gamma Delta alumnae. She s currently working as the Talent Development Administrator at Sysmex America, Inc. and also just recently took on an advising position with University of Whitewater s newly colonized AGD chapter. Aside from all the professional stuff, she s just living life, enjoying being back in Illinois, and looking forward to whatever the future has to offer! When asked what is it like being a post-greek graduate, she said, I ve noticed that my Greek life experience really does play a big role in my day-to-day. I remember getting asked a lot about my experiences during job interviews, and I was always so proud to talk about my previous leadership opportunities and the team building skills I gained as a Greek life member. It was so awesome to 6 be able to instantly bond with someone who was also Greek, because of our shared experiences. I also love that I ve been able to maintain my bonds with not only my Alpha Gam sisters, but my other Greek friends. Take it from me, these friendships really do last past the 4 years. She says she misses the closeness of it all. Greek life at Carroll is such a small, tight-knit group and she misses being that close to all her favorite people. In places like Wright House or the SIC, there was always a place for them to congregate and be around each other. She also misses being on the Student Activities side of Greek life. Being able to facilitate and help run training for her peers was one of the most rewarding experiences that she had. A little bit about her role as an advisor at UW Whitewater: I m the Chapter Wellness advisor, which essentially includes everything from sisterhood and membership to chapter safety and risk management. The AGD chapter at UWW is just starting out, so things like officer elections and committees are still being worked out. We have Leadership Consultants onsite in Whitewater to help move the chapter in the right direction and get their traditions established so they can hit the ground running for future years. So far, she says being an advisor has been pretty simple. She has been supporting the women on her committees and once they get officers established, she will begin to play a more vital role. The University of Whitewater AGD advisor committee is actually made up of a ton of our own Carroll Alpha Gams, so she says it has been so fun being connected to everyone on a post-grad level. We were really happy to hear all the positive things Kay had to say and wish her all the success in her future!

7 HANGING WITH THE NEW MEMBERS. october monthly meet-up WELCOMING SIG TAU HOME By Ross Johnson of DRU October s Monthly Meet up, Meet Sig Tau, was a huge success! It was great to see how many people came out to meet the new members of Sigma Tau Gamma. Special shout out to the newly initiated gentlemen who attended and introduced themselves to our wonderful, crazy, fun community. The event started with a brief introduction to their organization that helped the other chapters of Carroll Greek Life learn more about its newest brotherhood. We heard about some of the organization s history, the principals that the gentlemen dedicate themselves to, and some other interesting facts that allowed us to get to know them better. After this, members introduced themselves with their names, hometowns, majors, and why they wanted to join our Greek Life here. Following this, we all enjoyed some delicious apple cider, donuts, and good company as our community welcomed in its new members. It was great to see that everyone was meeting new people and building better relationships with one another. We are looking forward to doing more events with the gentlemen of Sigma Tau Gamma, and all our other chapters, in the very near future! On October 29th, our Student Activities Greek Life Staff hosted the bi-annual New Member Retreat. It was a day full of activities that helped bring the new member classes closer together, no matter what letters they had chosen as their home away from home. Organized by Kayla and Dennis, each individual facilitator and their group got to talk about many important topics, including Greek stereotypes that come up in our Carroll community and beyond. They also had energizers that helped keep everyone smiling throughout their time together. Thanks to everyone who attended! The Greek Life Staff hopes it helped you understand our awesome family a little better! 7

8 The Orange Pages WISH WEEK Hosted by Chi Omega Chi Omega is gearing up for their annual event, Wish Week. This year, the week will take place between November 27th and December 1st. The women of Chi Omega will be tabling in the Campus Center and encouraging passersby to write letters to Santa and donate to the Make a Wish Foundation. They are excited to spread awareness about this wonderful organization that grants wishes to children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions. BENEFIT DINNER Hosted by Delta Rho Upsilon The gentlemen of Delta Rho Upsilon are getting excited for their 7th annual Benefit Dinner on November 10th at 6pm in the Stackner Ballroom. All the proceeds will be going to the Hebron House. The Hebron House, located right here in Waukesha, provides shelter and services to homeless men, women, and children. The Benefit Dinner is sure to be a wonderful evening in support of a great cause!
