SIGMA SIGMA SIGMA The Chicago NW Suburban Tri Sigma Alumnae Chapter is pleased to be celebrating another successful year with our Panhellenic sisters. This week we will be having our Annual Founders Day. This year we partnered with our North Shore Alumnae Chapter to plan a luncheon in downtown Chicago following the March of Dimes Grant Park March for Babies Event on April 29 th. Our national philanthropic partnership with the March of Dimes is somewhat new to our organization so we are truly excited to take part in this event for the first time. This year in addition to our usual events such as our Holiday Party, potlucks and book clubs we tried to add a few new things to our calendar such as volunteering at Phil's Friends, a escape room event, brewery tour and a cruise of Lake Barrington. One project and event we were especially excited for was our Tri Sigma Annual Day of Service. We chose to make blankets to benefit the North & Central Chicagoland Chapter of Project Linus. We have worked with Project Linus before but this year we invited our friends of the Farmville Four. The Farmville Four are the four sororities founded at Longwood College including Alpha Sigma Alpha, Zeta Tau Alpha, Kappa Delta and Sigma Sigma Sigma. We are hoping that coming together with our Panhellenic sisters for a service event will become a new tradition for the Farmville Four groups represented in this area. SIGMA KAPPA In 2017, our Chicago Northwest Towns Alumnae of Sigma Kappa celebrated its 50 th year in existence! We had a record breaking crowd join us. We were able to identify all past Presidents of our organization. We invited as many past Presidents as we could find addresses for. We honored 3-50 year pin recipients as well. We got a number of cards/letters from past Presidents who were not living in the area and couldn t join us. From this meeting, we engaged two former members who are now active again. We also engaged a past President who d not been active for at least 30 years. Our September meeting was a pizza with purpose dinner. We met at California Pizza Kitchen, where 20% of our purchases were donated to the Alzheimers organization. We walked for our philanthropy Alzheimers- as well as having a wine tasting party, where again, a percentage of our purchases went to Alzheimers. In November, we celebrated our Founders Day with a cooking demonstration of foods from Maine, where our first chapter was founded. Our annual Holiday Auction was held in December, followed by a yoga lesson from one of our members in January. We stamped Valentines cards for an assisted living home in February and played bunco in March. We all enjoyed ice cream sundaes at our April meeting. Our May meeting will be a year-end social event with our new officer installation. We continue to support our college chapter at Marquette University in Milwaukee, where two of our alums were honored at a Special Ladies Tea. It was another very good year!
DELTA GAMMA Delta gamma had many social events this year including a Christmas party in which we brought gifts for a family we sponsored. Our welcome back dinner last September, ceramics painting along with lunch bunch, bridge club, book club and Ladies night out offer many opportunities to get together and meet new members. This year we made neck coolers for the military deployed in hot climates. Our participation in Vision Walk in June was a success in raising money for vision impairment research. ZETA TAU ALPHA Northwest Suburban Zeta s are wrapping up another year full of sisterhood, fun and parties. We started our year with a lively Mexican fiesta. We continued the party theme with a get-together at Pinstripes that included friends and family. Chinese New Year was celebrated with dinner at Chef Ping in February. We had a party making crafts in March. In October, we continued supporting the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walks in Park Ridge and Hoffman Estates. We got up early to set-up and run the survivor tents at the walks. In November, we had a blast making hundreds of holiday poppers filled with candy. We then donated them to residents at an assisted living facility. Our annual Make & Bake Auction in December was once again a hit while raising funds for our group. In April, we got serious and learned about crime prevention at the Mundelein Police department. As usual, we will finish out our year with our Crown dinner & officer installation in May Panhellenic Scholarship Recipients
2018 Outstanding Alumnae We would like to share a few words about each group s outstanding alumnae. Each group votes on one outstanding member of their alumnae group who help each of our organizations continue their lifetime commitment to our missions. Alpha Gamma Delta - Jordyn David. Jordyn is very helpful when asked to do things. She is willing to do things for the club and gets involved. She also is an advisor to a collegiate chapter. She has also been instrumental in organizing our AGD Club's Trivia Night fundraiser. Alpha Omicron Pi - Pat Juza. We unanimously selected Pat this year because she has been our President for the last 4 years and done a fantastic job. She has gone above and beyond anyone s expectations. The group has been so united under her Presidency. Alpha Phi - Barbara Illian. We selected Barbara, (University of Northern Iowa) as our outstanding alumnae member because of her dedication and service to our group. She has served as treasurer for many years but also assists with event planning and creating our Spring raffle basket. Barb makes the success of our chapter a priority and is always available to assist wherever is needed. Alpha Sigma Alpha - Nancy Reese. Nancy holds the position of Vice President of our alum group, but she does so much more. Nancy sends out all of our s, evites and serves as our Collegiate Relations chair. Nancy remembers to send Valentines to all of our Illinois Collegiate chapters as well as recognizing one each year with a special finals treats basket. Nancy also keeps us up to date with our National Headquarters for information and correspondence. Whenever we need anything, we call Nancy and she finds a way to do it. Alpha Xi Delta - Michelle Marchand. Michelle is our outstanding member this year as she has taken on advocating for our philanthropy Autism Speaks both within our association and publicly and by participating in numerous Autism Speaks events. She also serves as an Alpha Xi Delta Foundation Trustee and works as Senior Director of Chapter Development at Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Delta Gamma - Ann Ross. Ann has held numerous officer positions in our Delta Gamma Alumni Chapter including president. The last few years she has been in charge of programing with both educational and fun events. Ann is moving to Montana and will be missed by our chapter. Gamma Phi Beta - Betsy Glenn. Betsy has been a Gamma Phi Beta alumna for just shy of 10 years and has already served as our alumnae chapter s President as well as our Vice President of Programming and Public Relations. She is an integral part of our chapter and one of our most dedicated members. Kappa Delta - Leah Kahoun. Leah has been a dedicated member of our alumnae organization since she joined. She is currently co-president, co-chair of our annual philanthropy event, and served for several years as our Panhellenic Delegate. She was even brave enough to take over has Panhellenic President almost immediately upon becoming Delegate! We are thankful for her dedication to our group! Kappa Kappa Gamma - Darcy Bowe. The calm, cool and collected Darcy Bowe has served her term as President of the NWSAA of KKG with pride, grace and steadfast dedication. Pi Beta Phi - Lisa Richards. During Lisa s 9 years of membership in the Club she has held multiple positions including Co-President and currently Vice President of Communications and has been a very effective alumnae club officer. At the heart of Pi Beta Phi is friendship and leaders such as Lisa strengthen the bonds of friendship. She always makes everyone feel welcome and she truly takes a vested interest in every member. Sigma Kappa - Lauren Blanchette. Lauren has done an outstanding job as co-vp of Programs, resulting in high attendance at our meetings this year! She is a cheerleader, gets things done, and is a lot of fun to be with!! Sigma Sigma Sigma - Nancy McGowan. Nancy is the heart of our alumnae group. Nancy is a member of our Kappa chapter (Miami University of Ohio) and has served our organization in multiple positions nationally over her years as a dedicated alumna. Nancy and Kay Beaty are the ultimate Panhellenic cheerleaders and never miss a CNWSAP event to support our CNWSAP delegate. Zeta Tau Alpha - Dr. Linda Kresca. Linda is the Zeta Tau Alpha Outstanding Alum. She has been a member for 50 years! She has been our Historian Reporter, Treasurer and President. Linda has enriched the lives of her Zeta sisters by living a noble life, personally and professionally. Linda cared for her patients for a good many years and she continues to care for all of her sorority sisters' well-being. We are so proud of all of her accomplishments.
The 2nd Annual Super Senior Badge Day was held at the Garlands of Barrington on March 5th, Thirty five women came together for lunch to honor their separate and distinct Greek-letter affiliations while celebrating the common sorority experience! Kappa Kappa Gamma s Alumna Relations Specialist Nancy Worsley came up with the wonderful idea of seeking out the northwest suburbs' senior citizen alumnae who are living in our towns and retirement communities and to gather everyone together to celebrate Badge Day Nancy s idea swiftly became a reality and we hope this will be a Panhellenic tradition.
The Chicago NW Suburban Alumnae Panhellenic has implemented a significant change to its organizational structure. In December 2017 a committee was appointed to review the structure of the organization. We have now implemented a structure of elections and appointments vs. rotation, along with all of our events will be organized by committees. The committees will be formed from the regular delegates and ANY other alumnae who wish to help. Committee Chairs are appointed be the delegate s choice instead of being required to do a job from the old rotation system. All regular Council meetings are open to ALL members of sorority alumnae in the area. As in our current bylaws, each active member sorority shall be entitled to one vote per group. Committee meetings will be held as needed by the committees and shall be announced to all delegates. If you are interested in getting involved in the Chicago Northwest Alumnae Panhellenic in any way please visit out website to learn more. You can find out more about the positions we need assistance with and submit your information online:
