Ubuntu Ubuntu is an African philosophy that can be translated as I am what I am because of who we all are. The Office of Diversity Ubuntu is presented to members of our community or an organization that exhibits this philosophy and actively works to promote a diverse and inclusive community that embraces and celebrates our differences and our connections. Professional Development Greek Service and Philanthropy These students exemplify professionalism. They understand the importance of professional development and have created opportunities for their peers to learn and grow professionally either through student organizations or intentional campus programs. 4 Devore Humanitarian Org of the Program of the Advisor of the Officer of the character, exemplifies the best in all Otterbein students. The Carl and Helen DeVore Memorial Humanitarian, established in 1995, recognizes a junior or senior student for outstanding commitment to public service. The award acknowledges a spectrum of efforts, from individual service to the ability to create an organization and involve others. Most importantly, the award recognizes results accomplished through the student s initiative and his or her ability to translate ideas into practical results. This award recognized the hard work and dedication exhibited by a registered student organization as they work to create a better campus environment and increase leadership opportunities for members of their specific organization. In the letter of recommendation, please describe the purpose of the organization, yearly goals with outcomes, campus involvement and how the group has been a benefit to individual members, general students, and the campus as a whole. This award will recognize a social, cultural or educational program sponsored by an Otterbein student organization that helps to enhance and enrich the student experience on campus. In the letter of recommendation, please describe the purpose of the program, goals with outcomes and how the program has been a benefit to individual members, general students, and the campus as a whole. This award will recognize the advisor of a registered student organization who has demonstrated leadership, support, and dedication to the organization. An outstanding student organization officer delegates and empowers those around them. While an officer may have specific roles and responsibilities, their accomplishments and successes depend on how they develop and engage those around them. Any officer of an organization (elected or appointed) is eligible to receive this award. RSA OTTERTHON Gary Maul Tara Dougherty Alexis Bowman
5 Unsung Hero Not all leaders hold a formal role within student organizations. Sometimes members emerge who serve an important role within the direction of an organization and they are an often unsung hero. The Unsung Hero award attempts to recognize those individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty as a member of a student organization without a formal officer role/position. Van Sant Leadership Certificate The Van Sant Leadership Program was established in 2012 to cultivate a spirit of leadership development that inspires students to act with passion and lead with integrity as they transform communities. In order for students to receive the certificate they must attend 10 workshops, complete 40 hours of community service and actively participate in a campus student organization.
