After a month of fasting all Muslims have celebrated the Holy Eid-ul Fitr, one of the biggest religious festival for the Muslim umma. For the Rotarians this year the Eid festival had a different meaning in keeping with this year's RI theme 'Be a Gift to the World'. Truly the Holy Eid is an occasion for sacrificing and giving to the poor section of our society to make them feel happy and share the joyous moments of Holy Eid, with a Gift from the Rotary World, as DG Mike of District 7530 noted: "This year's Rotary theme is Be a Gift to the World". Rotarians have some gift to give we can give of our talents, our knowledge, our abilities, our effort and time, our dedication, our money, and our devotion. Through Rotary we can take these gifts and make a genuine difference in the lives of others and in our world. Our time is now; it will never come again. Be a Gift to the World!" SIX STEPS TO SUSTAINABILITY For Rotary, sustainability means providing long-term solutions to community needs that the beneficiaries can maintain after grant funding ends. Here are six steps that can make our project sustainable: 1) Assess community needs Have local sponsors conduct a thorough assessment to identify a community need that the sponsors can address in a way that fits beneficiaries values and culture. Involve multiple community partners in the planning process. 2) Use local materials Purchase equipment and technology from local sources when possible. Be sure that spare parts are readily available. Involve community members in the selection of technology and equipment, and train them to operate, maintain, and repair it on their own. 3) Identify a local funding source Confirm the existence of a local funding source to support a project s long-term operation, maintenance and repair. Compensate the project s suppliers and vendors appropriately so they will have an incentive to continue providing services. 4) Provide training, education, and outreach By providing training, education, and community outreach you will strengthen beneficiaries ability to meet project objectives. Confirm that there is a plan in place to transfer knowledge to new beneficiaries. Collaborate with local agencies and organizations to supply needed expertise. 5) Motivate beneficiaries to take ownership Provide incentives for beneficiaries and project participants to continue their support. Identify individuals willing to lead beneficiaries in sustaining project outcomes. Prepare the community to assume ownership of the project once grant funds are expended. 6) Monitor and evaluate Develop clear and measurable project objectives, and identify methods for collecting project data. Establish baseline data that can be used to demonstrate significant change for at least three years.

8 The Four Way Test of Rotary For Rotary, The Four-Way Test is the cornerstone of all action. It has been for years, and it will be in the future. Of the things we think, say or do 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? The test is one of the hallmarks of Rotary. Since it was developed in 1932 by Herbert J. Taylor, who later became RI president, it has never ceased to be relevant. Its four brief questions are not based on culture or religion. Instead, they are a simple checklist for ethical behavior. They transcend generations and national borders. Adopted by Rotary in 1943, the 4-Way Test has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways Information on this page came from: Do all the good you can. By all the means that you can. In the ways that you can. In all the places you can. At all the times that you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.
