CASA for Clermont Kids Fall Newsletter October 2014 CASA Welcomes New Executive Director: Nathan Bell. Clermont County Juvenile Court Family Dependency Treatment Court CASA for Clermont Kids recently said good-bye to Executive Director Alison Royalty. While she will be greatly missed, we are excited to introduce you to our new Executive Director, Nathan Bell. Nathan formerly served in Hamilton County as a full-time GAL attorney. In his 11 years working as a Guardian ad Litem under the Hamilton County Public Defender s Office, Nathan spent time as a GAL providing direct service to children, as an attorney for social worker GALs, and also managed other attorney GALs as the Assistant Director of the Hamilton County Office. Nathan has his JD from Duke Law School, and completed his undergraduate BA at Transylvania University in Lexington, KY. Nathan has spent his career in public service, working primarily with disadvantaged children. You may have heard of the new Family Dependency Treatment Court Clermont County has adopted? This is a specialized docket designed to provide legal accountability, evaluation and enhanced treatment services that encourage sobriety for parents with open abuse, neglect or dependency cases in order to expedite reunification of the family. The Clermont County Juvenile Family Dependency Treatment Court was developed in collaboration with local agencies including Clermont County Children's Protective Services, Clermont Recovery Center, Clermont County Mental Health and Recovery Board, the Clermont County Prosecutor's Office and members of the legal community. 2 FALL NEWSLETTER 2014 ISSUE 6 Lykins Energy Solutions holds it's 25th Annual Charity Golf On September 11, 2014, Lykins Energy Solutions sponsored its 25th annual charity golf tournament at Legendary Run Golf Club. 144 golfers participated in the outing to assist CASA for Clermont Kids. Lykins has held the golf outing for several years and has donated time and money to the CASA program for the last 15 years. On October 3rd, 2014 Lykins Energy Solutions presented a check in the amount of $43,000 to CASA for Clermont Kids. Over the years Lykins has contributed approximately $410,000 to the CASA program. We cannot thank Lykins and their staff enough for their ongoing commitment, hard work and support of CASA for Clermont Kids. CASA would also like to recognize Copper Blue in Milford for donating the lunches, DigiMax for donating all print materials and Legendary Run Golf Course for their significant in kind contribution to the event.!2

3 FALL NEWSLETTER 2014 ISSUE 6 Baxla Tractor & The Clermont County Farm Bureau hosts a "Girls Night Out" fundraiser to benefit CASA for Clermont Kids. On Thursday October 9, 2014 Baxla Tractor and the Clermont County Farm Bureau joined forces to create a fun, interactive Girls Night Out event to benefit CASA for Clermont Kids. The evening consisted of heavy appetizers, wine, desserts, plenty of giveaways, raffles, vendors and interactive equipment demonstrations. On November 7th both Baxla Tractor and the Farm Bureau presented CASA with a check for $3000. CASA for Clermont kids sincerely thanks Baxla Tractor and the Clermont County Farm Bureau for all their time and effort in putting this fundraiser together, it was a fantastic event and a great time was had by all.!3

Angie is a Paralegal and works in Batavia for Aaron Manter, Jeff Hale and Melissa Kroener. Angie also serves on the board for the Cincinnati Paralegal Association as the Continuing Legal Education Coordinator, volunteers with the Ohio Statewide Paralegal Alliance and for the Remember: Wills for First Responders Program. Angie's undergraduate degree is in Criminal Justice and she completed an internship under Judge Stephanie Wyler at the Clermont County Juvenile Detention Center in Her experiences there helped her to realize that she wanted to work with at risk youth in some capacity. The chance to volunteer for CASA presented itself in She jumped at the chance and never looked back. Dave had previously been a part of a mentoring program in Norwood, because of a job change, he had to leave that program. It was not much later that Angie told him about the CASA program. He knew he also wanted to be able to work with children again and signed up along with Angie. They completed their training in December 2011 and were sworn in February Dave and Angie just recently celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary and have two adult daughters and 2 grandchildren which they cannot get enough of! When they are not spending time with their grandchildren (and sometimes when they are) Dave enjoys all things racing. He has just completed his first season of lawn mower racing and has purchased his first go-kart. During Angie's downtime she enjoys hitting the comic cons throughout the region.!4

5 Board Spotlight Anne Arbaugh is currently the Assistant Director of Court Services for Clermont County Juvenile Court. She has been employed with Juvenile Court since She was previously employed with the Clermont County Department of Job and Family Services and served as the Deputy Director of Clermont County Children s Protective Services. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Lake Forest College and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Dayton School of Law. Anne has been involved with CASA for Clermont Kids since its inception in She has been on the Board of Trustees and has also served as a volunteer advocate in court for abused and neglected children. She has two children, Madison and Max. Dirr Nurseries has provided CASA for Clermont Kids a great opportunity to receive donations! During the Christmas Season, for anyone who purchases a Christmas wreath at Dirr Nurseries, and mentions CASA for Clermont Kids, $5 of that purchase will go to CASA!
