12 Community 3 rd Place Judges' Comments This was the splash play I was hoping to find as a judge. In the National Football League, a splash play is something that is a significant moment when eyes get focused to an event on the field. Sycuan, this is your splash play. Creating a memorable tag line to go with your TV, radio, print, in house and street presentations in association w/a nationally significant partner is easy to talk about in the team room but a tough one to pull off. You did it so well news media picked up the theme and your name. Close to 1/3 of your employees where so motivated that they participated in the keystone event wearing pink, black and tutus. That is significant staff support and internal relationship building. Congratulations to you, and thanks to your survivors for having the guts to step up and share their personal health challenges.

14 Community 2nd Place Judges' Comments Incredible participation on multiple levels. Repaired a fractured relationship. Great theme that allowed for monthly themes that all tied together. Most telling, successful outcome was that participation grew over time.

16 DESCRIPTION The Blue Lake Rancheria is a local leader in green, and clean, energy. The tribe has developed and deployed several forward thinking green initiatives. These initiatives are designed to decrease costs, protect the environment, and foster resiliency and independence has been the most ambitious year to date, with over ten projects being successfully deployed. Because of success in advancing these fields, the White House and U.S. Department of Energy named the Blue Lake Rancheria a Climate Action Champion for 2015, one of only two tribal governments to receive the award.
17 Judges' Comments This one takes direct action and social justice for local, state, tribal and world community to another place. What a terrific multi-disciplined effort. Nice to see a Tribe take the lead on such an important issue. Recognition from the White House as well!

23 Customer 2nd Place Judges' Comments Excellent participation and 150k over 12 years. Nice job and includes many different types of charities. Measurability presented helped tell the story. Really liked the idea of using an older style machine for developing new contacts and maintaining the regulars. Everyone wins with their application, and a two week turn around generates a sense of urgency for your community. Nice use of media and the outreach to get the internal and external community together on site is very well done.

25 DESCRIPTION: The Tuolumne County Annual Meals on Wheels fundraiser began in 2007 as a result of a community appeal for funds to help save our County Meals on Wheels program. Funds were becoming short as a result of cuts in local government funding. Black Oak Casino Resort took the lead in forming a community committee and brought public awareness to the program s financial needs.
26 Judges' Comments Theme is a winner. Meals on Wheels is a very well known program, and picking up other like minded businesses to donate time/services/volunteers means sharing the responsibility in significant ways. That leads to good will, community awareness and social capital. Based on submission, Meals on Wheels may not have continued services had it not been for this wonderful effort.

To have a set aside for Vets in the workplace is very special, and to have so many in your workplace is a testament to your efforts of recognition. Often, the stories of our own employees are overlooked. Nice job recognizing this important group!

I also appreciated the reach to all employees, and the words of the elder in the video got right to the point. The personal anecdotes on customer service helped, and the techniques shared on how customer service happens were enlightening! Very impressive. Cultural. On-going. All levels of employees.

34 DESCRIPTION: The Firekeepers Rally has been held twice annually every year since our grand opening in August of The Tribe founded the casino on the Tribal core values as outlined in the Seven Grandfather Teachings: Humility, Honesty, Courage, Love, Wisdom, Respect, and Truth. The primary goal of the Rally is to give a Gchi Migwetch (Big Thank You!) to our Team Members from the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Tribe and Firekeepers Casino Hotel. Our Rallies are especially popular with our Day 1 Team Members-approximately 100; these team members are acknowledged by giving each a special commemorative gift like watches, plaques and gift cards as a thank you for their commitment and years of service to FireKeepers.
35 Judges' Comments Good for morale, employee retention, and overall business. Employees appreciation beyond money is very important and valued by employees. As a Midewiwin person, it was an awesome surprise to see the 7 Grandfather values integrated into a business philosophy that all employees can experience, no matter their race, religion or experience with the teachings. I was also impressed by the multi-faceted and inclusive approach that let all employees of different abilities and communication styles have something during an event that can speak to them: music, learning, bonding, time to network or just enjoy each other. Some employees are quiet, loud, enthusiastic or shy. This event allowed for diverse people to come together and feel appreciated in a culturally specific and broad based manner.
