1 Message from the President November 2014 Hi Friends, Thank you for the opportunity to serve as 2014 President. MAHVRP membership is filled with outstanding individuals and leaders in your organizations. It has been a pleasure to work with so many talented, creative and thoughtful individuals. I am honored to have you as colleagues and friends The year is fast coming to an end and there is a lot to celebrate. Last week MAHVRP held our Annual Fall Conference in conjunction with MHA Convention at TanTarA, Resort, Osage Beach, MO. Congratulations to 2014 Award for Excellence winner, Jean Morrow and Citizens Memorial Hospital, Bolivar, MO. Hospitality House is their winning volunteer program. Our Fall Conference was filled with outstanding education, generous sponsors, silent auction items and lots of fun. I wish to recognize the following members for their creativity and hard work to organize the conference, Jean Morrow, Paula Gangel, Sherree Bryant, Silent and many more! Join me in congratulating Jean who secured 13 conference sponsors; the largest number of sponsors in our history. Sponsorships fund our conference programs and scholarships. For the first time MAHVRP held the Ozark Fun Run/Walk as part of conference events. Members and friends met early on Thursday morning to walk/run a 5K. The event raised $345 for scholarships. Join me in thanking Janice Seevers, Scrubs and Beyond, for donating t-shirts to MAHVRP participants. We are grateful to Kay Steward for her get healthy plan and to the following members for donations of time, talent, and treasure for the event; Alicia Rollins, Paula Gangel, Terri Hall, Tina Pridgeon, Crystal Lorah. You won t want to miss this event next year! It is my pleasure to announce that Stephanie Spradling and Pat Long are recipients of $250 scholarships to MAHVRP Fall Conference. Congratulations Stephanie and Pat. Thanks to everyone who applied for scholarships this year. I had to Be Brave this year. Serving as President of MAHVRP is out of my comfort zone, but I am so glad I did it. I wouldn t change a minute. I learned a lot about our organization and how it functions; I built strong professional relationships and had a bunch of fun! At conference we voted and celebrated the installation of 2015 MAHVRP Elected Officers. Plato said, Good actions give strength to ourselves and inspire good actions in others. As the year ends, I hope you too, are inspired to become active in MAHVRP, become an officer or committee chair. In our current economic environment of shrinking budgets and regulations, the opportunity to learn from each other, share success, and find support is more important than ever! 2 MAHVRP Past President Report 2014 This is the slate of officers presented on the Ballot for Voting by ended October 31, 2104, but according to by-laws, nominations for any office may be made from the floor at the general meeting, providing the nominee is present and consents to the nomination. All votes will be tabulated and the results will be announced during the general meeting. 3 Message from Professional Development What a wonderful Fall Convention at Tan-Tar-A! A huge thank you to all the people involved in making this year s conference a great professional development opportunity. During the fall convention, I had the pleasure of recognizing two individuals for obtaining their master s degrees. Amy Wiedmaier, Team Leader, Center for Healing Generosity at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Missouri earned her MBA from William Woods University and Crytal Lorah, Services Coordinator, Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri earned a dual degree with a Master of Arts in Management & Leadership and Human Resources from Webster University. And I d like to also mention recognition was celebrated at the Spring Conference for Alicia Rollins, Director,Volunteer Services at Hannibal Regional Hospital, Missouri for obtaining her Certified Administrator of Volunteer Services (CAVS) distinguishment this year. Congratulations to these ladies for all their hard work and effort in continuing their personal development and growth! This year, MAHVRP s first every Ozark Fun Run/Walk was successful in raising $ for next year s scholarship applicants for our MAHVRP and AHVRP conferences. It was a great time for all who entered or supported the event. Another big thank you to everyone on the event planning committee great things happen when we all work together! As the picture shows we embraced this new venture as a team with a group huddle! As professional development chair, it is my honor to serve in this capacity on the MAHVRP board and bring you information to enhance your professional career. I hope you ve had a chance to attend one of MAHVRP s conferences, participate in a webinar or attended our national affiliate organization s convention through AHVRP, attend a region meeting and get to know your region representative along with other colleagues in your area, get certified or work towards getting certified as CAVS, or grow educationally over the past year! Any and all of these are wonderful opportunities to expand your knowledge base and keep up with the ever-changing healthcare career field. Remember our colleagues are our best asset in MAHVRP! 4 Legislative Report The lack of Medicaid expansion in the state of Missouri was a critical topic in the legislature and with MHA. I provided information to the MAHVRP board and assisted with the effort by Phelps County Regional Medical Center (PCRMC) volunteers to further educate and have patients, visitors and employees sign signature cards in support of Medicaid expansion in the state of Missouri. Over 400 signature cards were presented to Representative Keith Frederick, DO by the director of auxiliary and volunteer services (avs) and the president of the avs board. Looking forward to 2015! Scrubs and Beyond were generous with donating t-shirts for MAHVRP members. We plan to make this an annual event. 6 A great job on room decorations! Officers and Chairpersons for 2015 Region 4 We meet on October 3 rd at Springfield Brewing Company for lunch, attendance was outstanding! We discussed making some changes in the responsibilities of the vice president for the coming year. Our next meeting is December 12 th in Springfield at The Vintage Suitcase, we will be having an ornament exchange as well as a meeting and lunch. Shantelle Posten Region 5 November 2014 Thank you all for re-electing me as your Region 5 representative. I look forward to the New Year and all the excitement it will bring. What a wonderful conference at Tan-Tar-A. I loved getting to see everyone, exchanging ideas and of course just having many laughs over the crazy things that happen in the Life of a Volunteer Director.
