1 Etagram Winter Edition ********************************************************** President s Message Valentine s Day is around the corner and we are reminded to share our hearts with those who are special in our lives. Eta Chapter is a very special part of my life. I remember being asked by Cheryl J. to attend a meeting being held at MOLAA (The Museum of Latin American Art). I enjoyed meeting the wonderful women of Eta that night. I am honored that I was asked to join Eta Chapter almost sixteen years ago. During those sixteen years, I have had wonderful opportunities being on committees, socializing, participating in activities and welcoming even more outstanding women to Eta Chapter. Unfortunately, when you give your heart to others, it can be broken when they leave us. Eta s heart has had her share of heart break this year. In September 2015 we lost Jhordis L. and in January 2016 we lost Shirley B. and Cynthia G. These women represented over 120 years of membership to The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. They were wonderful examples of commitment, participation and contribution. We were blessed to have known them and Eta will hold them in her heart forever. As we move forward, we are approaching a new biennium. A slate of officers are soon to be presented and voted upon in the coming months. The Chapter Rules have been updated with a new look for many of our chapter committees. I am hoping that many of our members will open their hearts to becoming more active on committees for the next biennium. Our chapter is as strong as her members and we are a very strong chapter. I am grateful for all the members of our chapter. I am blessed to have a very supportive, creative and active board. I proud of the many wonderful contributions Eta has made to help others in our community. I am honored to be president of our vibrant chapter and to serve so many wonderful women. 4 DKG and Scouts Unite for Community Project By Cathy L. Girls Scout Troop #73 joined 35 members of Delta Kappa Gamma, Eta Chapter at Hughes Middle School on January 21 st to create Jared boxes that benefit the young patients at Miller Children s Hospital of Long Beach. The Jared Box Project, which began in 2001, was the brainstorm of a young cancer patient in Pennsylvania who thought young patients needed something to do during their hospital stay. These activity boxes are filled with toys, puzzles, books, and fun-filled projects for all ages, all nestled in a plastic shoe box and brightly decorated. 12 Girl Scouts, under the leadership of Mrs. Cassie F., assembled activity boxes that included a personal written message from a scout. Madison F., her daughter, stated, We like helping out our community with fun projects such as this one. Everyone joined in decorating boxes and having cookies and drinks. About 100 boxes will be delivered to the hospital this week. Belated Birthday Wishes for:

This is a major fundraiser and Fun Raiser for our Chapter. The money raised will go to support grants for outstanding future teachers! So bring your checkbook and a FRIEND. You are asked to bring an item in a bag (as fancy or simple as you wish to gift wrap ). Attach a clue to the bag as to the possibilities of its contents. For our newer members, our Past Eta Presidents (PEP) will be the auctioneers. Whoever has the hands, don t forget to bring them!!! Leadership Retreat: January 23-24, 2016
