1 Alpha Gamma Chapter The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Mission Statement: The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. VISION: Leading Women Educators Impacting Education Worldwide Tuesday, September 4:30 Brauer Museum of Art (VUCA-Valparaiso University Center for the Arts) 1709 Chapel Drive We will be taking a tour of the art museum and then meeting in classroom 1412 reserved for the meeting. From there we will walk to the Science building to view the new construction and glass art from our previous visit to the Valpo Hot Shop. *VU has changed parking but there is parking near the VUCA. There is a circle drive where people can get dropped off, but there is limited parking near the building.

I graduated from Hebron High School in 2012 after attending Hebron schools my whole life. I continued on to receive a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Indiana University Bloomington. At the beginning of the school year, I began teaching Kindergarten at Hebron Elementary. During the school year, I adopted a golden retriever puppy named Dug who I am in the process of training to be a therapy dog. He visited a few times throughout the school year, and I hope to eventually be able to consistently bring him into the classroom to work with my students. I have always wanted to teach Kindergarten, and I am looking forward to meeting my new students and beginning my second year!

For those of you who don t know me, my name is Peg Mc Griff, and I am your new treasurer for Alpha Gamma. I hope that I can do as good a job as our former treasurer (Phyllis Schaper) did. Since we will be meeting soon for our first meeting of the new academic year, I want to remind you that it is that time of year to once again pay your yearly dues. They will be staying the same as last year: active members dues will be $70.00 and reserve dues will be $ Checks should be made out to DKG. Please bring your check to the September meeting or mail it to Peg Mc Griff 260 Springhill Dr.Valparaiso, Indiana Dues must be paid by October 31. Sixty dollars of the $70.00 goes to the state and international organization. One dollar goes to the scholarship fund which awards stipends for graduate and doctoral studies, and $1.00 goes toward the convention/conference. The remaining money stays with our local chapter. Alpha Gamma uses that money as well as fundraising money to support new educators and contribute to World Fellowship and Schools for Africa. We also give a monetary gift to speakers for meetings. This past year we also gave a donation of $ to the VNA in memory of Myrna Mc Murtry who had been a DKG member for many years. -Peg Mc Griff

4 Note from your President. We re ready to begin another year of inspiring meetings for our chapter. We have everything from exploring local museums to the power of spring cleaning along with disaster preparation, art history, and inspiring talks. In addition to the Traveling around our Sisterhood sharing time at every meeting, the committee assignments are part of our efforts to get everyone to feel a sense of belonging. When reading the description of the duties of various committees, it became clear to me as a group, we all collectively contribute to the 7 Purposes of Delta Kappa Gamma. It is my hope that everyone can find something to contribute or share with our group of amazing women, to promote (the) professional and personal growth of all women in our chapter. Last year we had a theme of Traveling around our Sisterhood. I am excited to see our chapter grow with not only members but memories in these next two years. -Karyn I have attempted to continue with a theme from last years Getting to Know You. I wanted to try something new this year with the gals, I want to ask one person each meeting to share a trip they have taken and some possible pictures. I will start with the first meeting and then ask around for the next meetings. Hi my name is Karyn Wenger and I am going to share about my Alaskan Cruise vacation. I went with my grandfather, mother, and aunt on a 2 week cruise all around Alaska. The highlights were zip-lining, Iditarod training camps, and whale watching. Along with the amazing sightseeing and breathtaking views we learned all about the local cuisine and traditions, which ranged from seafood to totem poles. My grandfather and I travel together during the summers and enjoy the time we have along with his bucket list of adventures. Wear Your Pin! Don t forget to wear your DKG pin to the meetings. We will resume collecting $1 fines from those that forget. All funds will go towards World Fellowship.
