5 Course title Reproductive Biology - from genesis to baby Learning objectives A student who has met the objectives of the course will be able to: 1. Understand basic regulatory mechanisms in both male and female human reproduction. 2. Get a comprehensive insight into key events of gonadal and embryonic development. 3. Understand the impact of reproductive sciences in the modern management of infertile couples who undergo assisted reproduction techniques. Content This is a ReproUnion PhD course integrating the Danish and Swedish Øresund Region. The aim of this course is to give the participants a comprehensive understanding of the basic knowledge on both male and female human reproduction. The course covers widespread aspects of reproductive biology from the molecular mechanisms behind male and female gonadal development to new perspectives and techniques in the management of people with reduced fertility (due to cancer or ageing) and infertile couples. This course makes the connections between the complex regulatory systems controlling reproductive functions and the importance for reproductive performance and outcomes in human beings. Participants PhD students, both science candidates and medical doctors, from the Faculty of Science at Copenhagen University and Lund University, as well as PhD students from other universities. Relevance to graduate programmes The course is relevant to PhD students from the following graduate programmes at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences, UCPH: - Clinical Research - Cellular and Genetic Medicine Language English 5

6 Form The course will consist of lectures by leading clinicians and scientists in the field. On the last day of the course the participants provide short presentations on selected topics which will be discussed in plenum.
