The IVF Bioscience Media Brochure
IVF Bioscience Visit us at ivfbioscience.com to find out more IVF Bioscience manufactures high quality, species specific media for in vitro fertilisation (IVF). Our innovative suite of ready to use media is helping many customers around the world to achieve higher blastocyst rates and superior results. With IVF Bioscience as your partner, establishing an IVF laboratory has never been easier. Our advanced, serum-free media system is provided in combination with an optimised IVF protocol and backed by continuous technical support, so you can be confident that you are in good hands. We work with you to ensure you get the best results possible. There are a number of challenges to overcome when setting up and running a successful animal IVF laboratory. Thankfully, we can now say there is one less. You will have a complete IVF media system, a ready to use, serum-free media, increased blastocyst rates and increased embryo survival after cryopreservation. The feedback we get from our commercial IVF labs is that their pregnancy rates are up. They are getting better quality blastocysts that look more like in vivo blastocysts, with a lot more cells, large distinct inner cell mass and many trophectoderm cells. Lotte Stroebech DVM PhD Scientific Advisor for IVF Bioscience 2
IVF Bioscience combines scientific pedigree with an extensive knowledge of the IVF sector, transforming success rates for in vitro production. Our Scientific Heritage The scientific team behind the development of our media is Lotte Stroebech DVM PhD and Birthe Avery MD PhD DVSc. Dr Avery is a former Associate Professor (now retired) from the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen. As Head of the IVF laboratory for 27 years, Dr Avery was responsible for in vitro embryo technology research and is widely acknowledged as a pioneer, and one of the world s leading authorities in the field of animal IVF. Dr Stroebech has also been at the forefront of many significant advances in the development of animal IVF media. She has more than 15 years experience in IVF media development. Her position as Affiliate Associate Professor of Anatomy and IVF Lab Director at the University of Copenhagen gives our customers access to a true expert in the field, providing real-time practical support and guidance from her working laboratory. IVF Bioscience media has helped us to improve the blastocyst rate and their quality; and led to stable embryo production that is important both in science and the breeding industry. We are grateful to Dr Lotte Stroebech, IVF Bioscience s Scientific Advisor, for her consultancy and continuous support. Ülle Jaakma PhD, Vice-Rector of Research at Eesti Maaülikool, Estonia Our Corporate Mission To increase the quality and productivity in global animal reproduction by producing innovative, worldleading media manufactured to the highest standards of quality and consistency. 4 About Our Media Why choose IVF Bioscience media? The IVF Bioscience media system offers an optimised suite of media products and accompanying protocol to enhance the success of your laboratory. Our media offers a distinctive set of key advantages, which sets us apart from traditional offerings and makes the successful transition into IVF a real possibility. A complete, integrated media system Large batch production for consistency Dependable technical support 25 years of media expertise Ready to use Serum-free Improved results Quality assurance Long shelf life Ready to Use ISO
Serum-Free Ready to Use Ready to Use Every IVF Bioscience product is serum-free. We exclude serum from our formulations due to its potential to infect embryos and affect batch-tobatch consistency. IVF Bioscience products instead contain purified bovine serum albumin (BSA) as a stable and high quality alternative. All IVF Bioscience media are ready to use with optimised formulae which eliminates the need to add further components. No supplements are required. This ensures a quality product, which in turn enhances survival rates, supports embryo robustness, and provides the consistency of results required for successful in vitro production. ISO Quality Assurance Our media is manufactured in an ISO certified facility, the standard applied to human IVF media production. We operate within an ISO 9001 environment. Prior to release, each new batch undergoes bacterial and fungal screens; is checked for ph, osmolality and endotoxins; and is bovine embryo assay (BEA) tested using a minimum of 700 oocytes from bovine slaughterhouse ovaries. Large Batch Production & Long Shelf Life The media are bottled from large batches in toxicity tested containers to ensure reproducibility and uniformity. This is coupled with their long shelf life, which allows you to work with the same lot for an extended period of time. This provides peace of mind that you are working with a consistent and reliable product. Contact IVF Bioscience at sales@ivfbioscience.com 5
In Vitro Fertilisation What results are achieved with IVF Bioscience media? IVF Bioscience media has been developed and optimised to produce improved results for our customers. We are seeing across the board improvements in rates for customers who switch to the IVF Bioscience media suite, regardless of species. The entire IVF Bioscience media suite is optimised for application in cattle IVF. From OPU to transfer, we have a product for every step in the process. We have evaluated an entire suite of media developed by IVF Bioscience and experienced some of the first real advances in improving development rates and embryo quality. The systems are robust in producing the highest quality embryos ever produced in our lab. Charles R Looney PhD President at Ovagenix We have used IVF Bioscience media for production of IVF embryos and we have been getting excellent results. Twenty-eight cows have so far been impregnated, with embryos developed with ova from four high-yielding indigenous breeds. Dr Shyam Zawar CEO at JK Bovagenix 6
Scientific Publications Superior results are achieved by using the entire media system due to their synergy when used together. This study investigated the performance of IVF Bioscience media as a system compared to their use as stand-alone products with TCM199/SOF. The use of BO-IVM, BO-IVC, BO-IVF and BO-SemenPrep together as a system produced improved blastocyst rates and higher kinetic and morphology scores than using the products in isolation. Nielsen, J. M. K., Wrenzycki, C., Hyttel, P., Poppicht, F., and Strøbech, L. (2014). 234 NEW CULTURE MEDIA AFFECTS BLASTOCYST DEVELOPMENT AND GENE EXPRESSION LEVELS IN IN VITRO-PRODUCED BOVINE EMBRYOS. Reprod. Fertil. Dev. 27, The IVF Bioscience media system produces in vitro embryos that have greater resemblance to in vivo derived embryos, due to their higher mean cell counts and greater tolerance to seasonal temperature fluctuations. This study compared IVF Bioscience media (BO-IVM, BO-IVF and BO-IVC) with a control system. In comparison to the control, IVF Bioscience media was shown to produce a greater number of viable embryos, with higher mean cell counts, and far greater consistency in embryo viability. Pryor, J. H., Hasler, J. F., Strøbech, L., Avery, B., Hashem, N., Menges, S., Long, C. R., Shewfelt, G., and Looney, C. R. (2015). 86 IMPROVED BOVINE EMBRYO PRODUCTION USING NOVEL IN VITRO CULTURE SYSTEMS. 8 Embryo Transfer, Cloning and Other Species Using IVF Bioscience media I had beautiful blasts that made great biopsies and responded as though they had just been collected from the donor. IVF Bioscience media gives me the flexibility to prioritize when the embryos are biopsied. Matt Barten Owner of Embruon Sheep, Goats & Camels IVF Bioscience media is suitable for bovine, ovine, caprine and camelid species. Every product in the IVF Bioscience suite is optimised to provide enhanced results and convenience. I have been testing IVF Bioscience media and one other source. I had very good success with my first round with goat ovaries using IVF Bioscience media and haven t had as much success with the competitor. I really do prefer IVF Bioscience media. Dawn Bresnahan MS PhD Assistant Professor, Dept. of Animal Science at Berry College 8
Embryo Transfer Although IVF is on the increase around the world, ET still remains a popular breeding method for the production of high quality embryos. Using IVF Bioscience media within your ET system could boost this even further. Pre 1 2 BO-IVC or Flush Embryos with BO - OPU Wash, handle and hold embryos BO - WASH BO-Transfer Confirm embryo viability, optimise recipients and gain extra pregnancies from lower grade embryos* Biopsy or split embryos BO - Biopsy Vitrify and warm embryos BO-VitriCool & BO-VitriWarm Transport to farm and/or transfer into recipient BO-Transfer Cloning Cloning is an increasingly relevant breeding technology. Cloning s particular relevance to building endangered populations and overcoming breeding difficulties in species, such as camels and rare breeds, could all be enhanced by the application of IVF Bioscience media. Relevant media products for cloning from our current suite include: BO-Wash to wash and handle oocytes and embryos; BO-IVM to mature oocytes; BO-IVC with a BO-Oil overlay to culture embryos; BO-VitriCool and BO-VitriWarm to vitrify and warm embryos; and BO-Transfer for transport to farm and/or transfer into recipient. *Demetrio, D.
