3 Symposium Faculty Keynote Speakers Ian Hammond is a Gynaecologic Oncologist and worked at the WA Gynaecological Cancer Service at King Edward Memorial Hospital and St John of God Hospital in Subiaco, Perth. He is a Clinical Professor in the School of Women s & Infants Health, University of Western Australia. He was involved in the development of the Anatomy of Complications Workshop that is now in its 13th year. Ian chaired the Group responsible for the 2005 NHMRC endorsed Australian guidelines for the management of screen detected Pap smear abnormalities. He is currently the Chair of the Renewal Steering Committee for the Australian National Cervical Screening Program and this is a work in progress. Ian retired from clinical practice in 2012 to pursue other interests including photography, travel, reading, writing, learning Spanish and cooking for his wife Frances. Professor Roger Smith AM MBBS Hons PhD FRACP FRANZCOG Roger Smith is currently Professor of Endocrinology at the University of Newcastle, and Co-Director of the University s Priority Research Centre in Reproductive Science and the Hunter Medical Research Institute s program in Reproduction and Pregnancy. Roger is also Director of the Mothers and Babies Research Centre. Roger is internationally recognised for his expertise in the endocrinology of pregnancy, placental function and translational research. He is especially known for his work on human parturition. He has extensive skills and experience in managing NHMRC grants to successful conclusions and publication. Guest Speakers Associate Professor David Amor Director of Victorian Clinical Genetics Services (VCGS) Trained in paediatrics and genetics at the Royal Children s Hospital before completing a PhD in Chromosome Biology at MCRI Research Interests: identification of genes for rare syndromes, the translation of new genetic technologies into clinical practice and genetic factors related to infertility and IVF treatment Associate Professor Jeanie Cheong Consultant Neonatologist, Royal Women s Hospital Subspecialist in perinatal neurology, neonatal neuroimaging and long-term follow up Executive member of two research groups based at the Murdoch Children s Research Institute, the Victorian Infant Collaborative Study Group and the Victorian Infant Brain Studies Group, which research expertise encompass long-term follow up of high-risk newborns Lead investigator of an NHMRC-funded study on brain development and developmental outcomes of late preterm infants Lead clinician in the newborn follow-up service at the Royal Women s Hospital Professor Martin Delatycki Director, Clinical Genetics Austin Health Director, Bruce Lefroy Centre, Murdoch Children s Research Institute Clinical and research interests: Community screening and neurogenetics Involved in setting up screening programs for cystic fibrosis and Tay Sachs disease and related conditions in Victoria Associate Professor Dorota Gertig Medical Director, Victorian Cervical Cytology Registry Principal Research Fellow (Honorary), University of Melbourne Current interests include: Cervical screening, and prevention, epidemiology of cervical cancer, improving participation in screening Ms Fiona Norris BSc FHGSA (Cytogenetics) Senior Medical Scientist/Manager Prenatal Cytogenetics VCGS Interests: whole genome microarray analysis in a prenatal setting, medical genomics
