3 Suill:,/ Biologie UNIVERSITATEA DIN CRAIOVA UNIVERSITY OF CRA/OVA,/ Horlicullurd,/ Tehnologia prelucrdrii produselor agricole Vol. VIII (XLIV) NEW DATA ON PA RA NEMASTOMA A NCAE AVRAM, 1973 AND ASTROBUNUS LAEVIPES (CANESTRINI, 1872) (ARACHNIDA, OPILIONES) IN ROMANIA ANDA BABALEAN', VICTORlA ILIE" The paper presents the variability of some morphological characters of two Opilionid species: Paranemastoma ancae and Astrobunus laevipes. There are described for the first time the "receptacula seminis" for Paranemastoma ancae. For Astrobunus laevipes the pedipalp shows the features of a related genus - Homalenotus - and also of a related species- Astrobunus he/l~ri. For this reason we have done a complete description of Astrobunus laevipes from the local population of Ostroveni - Dolj. We have outlined too, the male and female genital systems. Inside the ovipositor it was put in evidence an unknown structure which is to be studied in light and electron microscopy. The areal of Astrobunus laevipes is extended to south in Romania. INTRODUCTION Paranemastoma ancae was described in 1973 by ~tefania Avram on a sample (4 males, 7 females, I juvenile) from Apuseni Mountains - R~a~ region: surroundings of Ra:a~ mine, Ampoi Valley, Ied~ Valley. The presence of the species was also reported in Bihor Mountains and Botanical Garden- Cluj (Weiss, 1996) and 'in Metaliferi Mountains ' (Babalean, 2002). Astrobunus laevipes is cited in romanian Opilionid fauna in Dobrogea, Central Plain, W. Carpathian Mountains: Alm~ Valley, Ie~eln~ei Valley (Dumitrescu, 1970,1972) and in Ostroveni - Dolj (Babalean, 200 I). The study of the samples from Metaliferi Mountains and Ostroveni-Dolj allowed us to find some differences comparatively to the holotype for Paranemastoma ancae and comparatively to other arachnologists descriptions for Astrobunus laevipes. MATERIALS AND METHODS Paranemastoma ancae: 6 males, 9 females from Metaliferi Mountains - Curechiu, Astrobunus laevipes: 140 adults collected fron! Ostroveni - Dolj during RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS For Paranemastoma ancae the differences are given in table 1 and fig. I. and affect the following characters: length of body tubercules on dorsal area IV length of penis shape of penis: by the presence of spines on the medial face of the small branch of gland, the penis is more similar to Paranemastoma silli. length of ovipositor University of Craiova.. "Receptacula semmls" are mushroom hke WIth two oval vesicles below - fig. I. Astrobunus laevipes - fig. 2 Body length - male: 2,5-2,9 mm; female: 3,7-4,5 mm. Cephalothorax is slender than the abdomen. The front edge of cephalothorax is smooth, without denticles. Supracheliceral lamellae have (each) one strong, conical projection. Ocularium is black and small, with two rows of three light- yellow denticles: the four denticjes from the rear of the ocularium are equable or almost equable; the most anterior two denticles are very short. On the abdominal tergites there are pairs of conical projections as follows: on the abdominal tergites I - IV - one pair of conical projections on the abdominal tergite V - two pairs of conical projection out of wich the median ones are bigger on the free abdominal tergite I - two pairs of conical projections on the free abdominal tergite II - one pair of very little denticles Pigmentation Dorsal - yellow to russet with large brown spots. The conical projection are black with yellow tops. VentraI- yellow-russet. Appendages Chelicerae - are brown with a big ventral spur. A short conical proeminence comes on the medial part of the first podomere of the chelicera. On this segment there are dorsal setae. Male pedipalpi - are dark brown. Femora with: one ventral row of cilindrical proeminences alternating with rare setae two medial groups of conical denticles (3+5) rare dorsal setae only in light microscopy - very short, conical excrescences and about 13 light spots can be seen in medial position. Patella - with setae and with dorsal spherical, almost translucent excrescences, vacuolary like. Tibia - is similar to patella but with longer setae. Tarsus - with longer setae near the pectinated claw and with one ventral, short row of sensitive excrescences near the claw. Legs: leg II - 11,4 mm Coxae and trohanters are light yellow; the rest of the segments are brown with few yellow spots. Both coxae and trohanters presents long denticles as follows: cx I - posterior - I denticle cx Il - anterior - 1 denticle tr I - anterior; posterior - 2 dentic!es tr Il - posterior - 2 denticles tr III - anterior - 2 denticles; posterior - 2 denticles; tr IV - anterior - 3 denticles 65
5 On the rest ofthe segments and also on body there are spheric granules - Trogulus like. Penis - is light yellow, 1.45 mm in length. Corpus has a large base, then get slim near the glans. The rhomboidal glans has two pairs ofsetae. Ovipositor - is yellow and short: 1.4 mm in length; consisting of 15 wide segments. On the lower part of the bifurcate region of ovipositor an ovoidal, brown droplet shape structure is visible by transparency. "Receptacula seminis" are elongated, ovoidal vesicles. Both male and female genital systems follow the general genital pattern of an Opilionid: one testis, spermiducts, copulatory organ, penis; one ovary, oviducts, uter, ovipositor.- fig.2 REMARKS Patella and tibia of the pedipalp have tubercules and glandular orifices more similar to Homalenotus genus while the palpal femora is more similar to Astrobunus helleri as described in Martens (6) REFERENCES 1.
