Law of Signatures In Chinese Medicine, there s also something called the Law of Signatures. I ll provide an article to serve as a quick illustration, and then discuss after the article how you can apply this idea to your perfuming: The Law of Signatures, otherwise known as The Doctrine of Signatures or Teleological Nutritional Targeting is the amazing relationship between the signature (particular attributes) of fruits, vegetables, and herbs and how they relate to the body part(s) they help. Understanding The Law of Signatures is an intuitive approach to the knowledge of how food relates to our health and well-being. Here are a few examples: Walnuts: the brain-boosting nut. Adding walnuts to your diet may help boost your memory according to a new Journal of Alzheimer s Disease report. Researchers found that eating walnuts was associated with better memory and brain function. The antioxidants in walnuts may help counteract age-related cognitive decline and even reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer s.
Avocados: Resembling the uterus targets the female reproductive system. It takes exactly nine months to ripen an avocado to ripened fruit. According to research, when a woman eats one avocado a week, it helps to balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and prevents cervical cancers. It is also a good source of folic acid, which decreases the risk of uterine dysplasia a precancerous condition. Tomatoes: Lycopene, the bright red carotene found in tomatoes, decreases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. By adding a bit of fat to your tomatoes toss them with olive oil or mix with avocado the amount of lycopene digested by your body will increase tenfold.
Green Grapes: Very effective for helping asthma, as the assimilatory benefits of grapes make the lungs more moist, opening bronchial tubes and making it far easier to breathe overall. Also helpful for aiding in getting over a cold or cough due to blocked airways, and helps to get rid of and break up mucous in the body while you are sick. Drinking grape juice can open your airways and help improve your lung function either due to asthma-related issues of a cough or cold. Red Grapes: Help the heart by raising the nitric oxide levels in the blood. This helps to prevent blood clots, which keeps heart attacks and strokes at bay. Furthermore, the antioxidants in grapes help prevent the oxidation of bad cholesterol, keeping it from clogging the arteries to the heart and keeping the heart healthier overall.
Ginger: Good for your stomach, spleen and intestines. Ginger is extremely good for a good digestion and the burning of calories. Ginger contains a substance called zingibain. There is no substance on earth that has such powerful protein digest enzymes as zingibain. Kidney Beans: Kidney beans are a rich source of fiber, which is extremely helpful in lowering cholesterol. The National Institute of Health discovered a link between high cholesterol levels and kidney disease.
Olives: An Italian study found that women whose diets included a lot of olive oil had a 30% lower risk of ovarian cancer. The reasons are unclear, but the healthy fats in the oil may help suppress genes predisposed to causing cancer. There are several more examples, such as carrots, which are good for eye health, and figs are good for testicles, etc. The idea is to eat a variety of foods and you can cover most of your body parts with everything they need to function optimally.
Back to JK here This concept applies as a really simple way to think of the materials. You can always get more specific in terms of thinking of the individual materials the same way that the above article speaks of them, but I suggest you abstract your thinking a little bit further Bones Structure Skeleton Woods à Woods serve as the Skeleton of your Perfume. They provide the skeleton upon which you will build your perfume. They also speak to the core of a person reaching deep inside to their very Spirit. Blood and Lymph Tissue Gums and Resins à Gums and Resins in Chinese Medicine are often used to treat the Blood, Lymph, and Connective Tissue. Gums and Resins are the Lifeblood of various plants, and also serve to bring Nourishment and Healing to the body Use Gums and Resins to flesh out the Woods, putting Meat on the Bones, and Nourishing exhaustion. Attitude Character Personality Spices and Herbaceous Aromatics à Use these materials the same way you would spruce up a salad (Herbaceous Aromatics) or a flavored dish (spicing various dishes). If we were speaking of food, the Meat, Rice, or Pasta would serve as the Bones of a meal. The Sauce, which will hold the entire dish together, would be the Gums and Resins. The herbs and spices that you use to flavor the dish would be the Character or Personality of the Dish. Even given the same Bones and Sauce, it s the Herbs and Spices that make the variety of dishes possible using the same base ingredients.
Flowers Floral ingredients are almost always associated with having Spiritual properties. The reason that this is the case is that a plant, in very simple terms, is distinguished by it s flowers it s Spirit. They are, in a rough manner, the Fruits of the Spirit. They are often very Nourishing materials, like a hug from Mom à For this reason, many floral ingredients are seen to affect the various aspects of our Personality our Spirits, so to speak. They often speak directly to our Hearts. This is very prevalent in Ayurveda, in regard to perfuming. Florals don t need to even be perceptible in a fragrance, but a light dosing of florals can really tie the entire fragrance together, bridging the gaps between the various materials and tiers in a perfume like our Spirits holding us together. Skin Lungs Self Esteem Leaves, Rinds, Barks, and Peels Leaves, Rinds, Barks, and Peels are essentially the Skins and Lungs of a material. They serve as being the conduit through which a being experiences the outside world, and separates Self from Not-Self. à For this reason, these materials can have a strong affect on our Skin and Lungs, as well as our Self Esteem and Confidence. You ve heard the expression, Being comfortable in your own skin? These materials not only treat physical ailments, but also serve to aid in maintaining the balance of Security they are the Walls of our Castle, so to speak.
