1 Jaime A. Cummings 7036 Perry City Rd Trumansburg, NY (315) Education: M.Sc. Plant Pathology 2007; Washington State University (WSU); Pullman, WA B.Sc. Environmental Forest Biology 2004; SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF); Syracuse, NY A.Sc. Biology 2001; Broome Community College (BCC); Binghamton, NY Employment: Cornell University; Ithaca, NY January 2012 Present Research and Extension Support Specialist II in the Field Crops Pathology Lab of Dr. Gary Bergstrom in the Plant Pathology and Plant Microbe Biology department. Coordinated, planned, established and maintained all field trials for wheat, barley, corn and soybean evaluating IPM practices, including fungicide applications, varietal selection for disease resistance, and disease sentinel plots; which involved planting, inoculating, treating, rating and harvesting trials. Rated small grains breeding nurseries for diseases. Responsible for all data management, analysis, summarization, and presentation of results at meetings or in publications or reports. Presented research results and management recommendations to growers and stakeholders at extension meetings. Served as the laboratory manager and supervised the daily activities and safety of students and temporary employees. Managed all budgets for purchasing and distribution to appropriate resources and projects. Acquired all necessary USDA APHIS permits, and ensured that the lab remained in strict compliance with all regulatory and permit requirements for pesticide storage and pathogen research. Served as the primary diagnostician responsible for accurate and timely diagnosis of all field plant samples submitted by extension agents, industry representatives, or growers and provided recommendations based on diagnoses. Developed novel controlled environment assays for evaluating disease resistance, and utilized molecular techniques for genotyping and identifying fungal pathogens. Collaborated with numerous Cornell Cooperative Extension and IPM Specialists on a variety of field crops projects statewide. Maintained and added thousands of pathogen isolates to the Bergstrom Lab pathogen culture collection. Obtained research and salary funding through preparation and submission of grant proposals. Prepared and submitted technical reports to funding agencies and manuscripts for publications. Interacted extensively with all stakeholders involved in small grains and field crops production, including growers, industry representatives, CCE and academics statewide via collaborations and extension outreach. 1

2 Monsanto Company; St. Louis, MO November 2008 December 2011 Research Associate in soybean pathology in the Soybean Agronomic Traits group in the Soybean Breeding organization. Developed novel greenhouse and laboratory disease screening assays and optimized existing assays to efficiently characterize soybean germplasm for resistance to multiple diseases, and to identify novel QTL s and SNP s in mapping populations. Implemented assay protocols to deliver all pathology data on schedule for germplasm advancement decisions. Accountable for all data management. Responsible for the scheduling, coordinating and execution of all pathology assays, including hiring and managing the activities of six temporary employees. Developed and implemented protocols and SOPs for pathogen isolate storage and maintenance of viability and virulence. Responsible for all USDA APHIS permitting applications and maintenance and ensuring that the team maintains compliance with all permits and regulations of a biosafety level two facility. Responsible for accurate and timely diagnoses of field, greenhouse or lab plant samples. Assisted breeders with planning of field disease trials and the rating of field plots for multiple diseases. Traveled throughout the U.S. to establish, visit and rate breeders and growers field nurseries for disease resistance. Coordinated, produced and distributed all pathogen inoculum for all greenhouse, lab and field disease assays and trials and developed field inoculation protocols for breeding nurseries for field-based phenotyping of germplasm. Collaborated with numerous individuals across the company in North and South America to achieve the overarching goals of the global soybean breeding organization. Washington State University; Mount Vernon, WA January - October 2008 Agricultural Research Technician for the Vegetable Horticulture program of Dr. Carol Miles. Coordinated and maintained all field trials for cultivar evaluations for many vegetables; including bed preparation, irrigation installment, transplanting, data collection, diagnostics, scouting, and harvest. Conducted literature searches, statistical analyses, prepared manuscripts for publication, and submitted grant proposals. Assisted with preparation of extension materials. Washington State University; Mount Vernon, WA July December 2007 Graduate Research Assistant in the Vegetable Seed Pathology program of Dr. Lindsey Du Toit. Conducted field, greenhouse and laboratory research throughout Washington State, including research on both organic and conventional management of soilborne diseases of spinach (Pythium, Fusarium, and Rhizoctonia), Iris Yellow Spot Virus in onions, Bacterial Blight of carrots, and Powdery Mildew of carrots. Responsibilities included design, establishment and maintenance of field and greenhouse trials, seed health assays, diagnostics, fertilization, supervising and instructing temporary employees, pesticide applications, weed management, data collection, literature searches, statistical analysis, presentations and publications. Scouted and diagnosed issues on farm and shared research results and management recommendations to growers via extension meetings. College of William and Mary; Eastern Shore of Virginia, Cape Charles, VA June - August 2005 Wildlife technician for ground-nesting waterfowl project in the Biology department. Monitored bird populations on eight different islands to determine nest success or loss due to introduced predators using GPS and line transects to locate nests and predators. 2

3 YMCA Of Greater New York; Huguenot, NY September June 2005 Outdoor Environmental Educator / Naturalist. Instructed many biology and ecology courses for children and adults of all ages, lead interpretive hikes, developed an interpretive trail including signs, and facilitated team-work activities. Virginia Tech; MeadWestVaCo Research Forest, Cassity, WV June - August 2004 Wildlife technician for a small mammal project in the Biology department. Determined populations of various small mammal species through trapping, tagging and releasing in remote forests with steep terrain under a wide range of weather conditions.
