After all, roots are responsible for the absorption of water, nutrients & gas exchange, as well as providing the anchorage required to keep the plant fixed within the substrate. With this knowledge in mind, we have set out to develop a safe-to-use substrate enhancer, specifically aimed at improving root conditions and thus allowing roots to fulfill their tasks better. In order to achieve this objective, we have looked at two main factors in root health: Oxygen and availability. At BEKLU it s taken us no less than 9 years of research to develop the Altimer kernel. Altimer kernels are macromolecular substrate grains with unique properties, which aid plants to achieve a oxygen & water balance for optimal growth and development. The Altimer kernels increase in volume when storing water, mechanically opening up the general soil structure. When they retract in volume, they leave behind micro-air pockets within the soil structure, which allow for excellent root aeration (improved oxygen availability for the roots). The water retention ability of Altimer kernels has been engineered to have a specific maximum limit to their water retention capacity and volume expansion. It is an Intelligent Food Source nutrition system, consisting of 4 different specific nutrition pellets - each equipped with a unique timing-release mechanism. Practically this means that each nutritional pellet is designed to be activated to release its nutritional contents precisely when the previous one stops releasing nutrition. When water is added to the substrate, it is absorbed into the kernel, therefore mixing with the liquid nutrition in the core. Plant roots have been equipped to detect water gradients, (hydro-tropism), and as they reach the roots and absorb water from the kernels, they automatically are forced to take in the nutrition with it. This has proven to be a highly efficient way to power-feed plants, compared to most conventional liquid nutrients which are wasted/drained out/ remain un-absorbed in the medium.
