2 Dear Corporate and Strategic Partners, The Fundamentals of Hip and Knee Arthroplasty for Orthopaedic Residents courses, presented by AAOS, AAHKS, The Hip Society, and The Knee Society will host over 200 orthopaedic residents and distinguished faculty across the three course locations in Baltimore, Rosemont, and Long Beach. This is the fifth year that these courses are being offered. Over the past four years, these courses have exposed residents to the field of hip and knee arthroplasty early in their residency which has helped to stimulate a greater interest in performing arthroplasty procedures. None of this happens without true synergy and partnership with industry. Financial support for these courses is critical to our mission of teaching and transfer of experience, knowledge, and techniques to our orthopaedic residents. These courses are considered to be a valuable learning experience for residents in the area of hip and knee arthroplasty. 6 BUS TRANSPORTATION BALTIMORE COURSE ($10,000) Bus transportation will be used for the Baltimore course to take the participants to and from the hotel and lab facility on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 7 COURSE DESCRIPTION & EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES These surgical skills courses are targeted to orthopaedic residents. Residents will build their surgical skills which will lead to proficiency at hip and knee arthroplasty in this interactive skills course. A majority of the course time will be spent practicing bone cuts, correcting ligament balancing for TKA, determining correct implant sizing and restoring biomechanics in THA, and more! Residents will work on anatomical specimens under the guidance of expert faculty. Panel discussions and faculty-led small group interactions round out the skills lab experience. Program Objectives Identify the surgical anatomy as it relates to arthroplasty of the hip and knee Combine clinical and radiographic information in pre-operative templating of hip and knee Arthroplasty Practice exposure of the hip and knee with a variety of approaches Formulate strategies for intraoperative decision-making for releasing contractures, maximizing motion and retaining stability of the Arthroplasty Manage and avoid postoperative complications following arthroplasty COURSE DETAILS For additional information and a copy of the course schedule, please go to the AAOS website, AAOS CME Course Calendar.
