5 QUESTION 6 Read the extract from Measles campaign a huge success and answer the questions. Measles campaign a huge success SCIENCE NEWS / 25 April 2012, 10:08am MARIA CHENG London - The number of measles deaths worldwide has apparently dropped by about threequarters over a decade, according to a new study by the World Health Organisation and others. Most of the deaths were in India and Africa, where not enough children are being immunised. Health officials estimate about 9.6 million children were saved from dying of measles from 2000 to 2010 after big vaccination campaigns were rolled out more than a decade ago. Researchers guessed the number of deaths fell during that time period from about 535,300 to 139,300, or about 74 percent. The first measles shot was licensed in the US in 1963 and is now widely included in routine childhood immunisation programs in developed countries. Last year was the worst year for measles in the US in 15 years, with 222 cases - mostly imported by foreign visitors or by US residents infected overseas. 1. Why do children die from Measles, especially in India and Africa? 2. How is Measles spread? QUESTION 7 Answer the following questions: 1. Can a person catch Malaria from an infected person just by being near them? 2. Where can Cholera bacteria be found? 3. When organisms are passed on from one host to another, we call these diseases caused by these organisms diseases. (1) TOTAL : 50 [2] [3] 5
