5 Speakers As the President and C.E.O of Onda Corporation, Claudio oversees the design and manufacturing of a complete line of ultrasound metrology devices, a very active acoustic testing laboratory, and the development of new medical devices. Claudio s contributions in ultrasound transducers and their metrology spans 30 years. Prior to founding Onda, he was involved in the development of ultrasonic transducers at Acuson (now Siemens), pioneered the field of endovascular imaging at Endosonics (now Volcano Therapeutics) and was part of bringing from the lab to production the first phased arrays at General Electric (which is still General Electric). One of Claudio s hobbies is learning languages; he is currently studying Mandarin. Prof. Chien-Ting Chin Chien Ting CHIN is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the School of Medicine, Shenzhen University. He grew up in Hong Kong, and since the age of 17 has been a citizen of the Global Village. His family immigrated to Canada and he earned a Ph.D. in medical biophysics at the University of Toronto, researching mechanisms and imaging methods for contrast ultrasound. During this time, he co-developed the first multipulse contrast imaging method in the world. In 2000 he became a research scientist at Erasmus University in the Netherlands, during which he led the development of a digital high speed camera for biomedical research. In 2003 he joined Philips Research in New York as a senior scientist. At Philips, he co-developed the world s first commercial translational research platform for novel ultrasound therapy, and collaborated with researchers, clinicians and pharmaceutical companies around the world to investigate drug- and gene-delivery methods using ultrasound and microbubbles. Currently Chien Ting engages in teaching and research in ultrasound imaging and therapy and other modalities including CT and MRI. Mr. Robert Hekkenberg For more than 35 years, Rob Hekkenberg has helped various organizations build and maintain acoustic measurement laboratories. While at the Ultrasound Division of the Healthcare Division at TNO, Rob developed measurement methods for medical ultrasound and guided industry partners through the regulatory compliance to both national and international standards (e.g., European MDD and US FDA). When the Ultrasound Division was taken over by the Institute of Acoustics at CSIC (Spain), Rob supported the transfer with his expertise in measurement systems and methodologies. Rob also worked with the Standardization Institute of Brazil (Inmetro) to set-up their primary standard ultrasound measurements system. Rob is a recognized expert in the ultrasound community and was awarded the IEC 1906 award for his contributions to IEC/TC87/WG8. Currently as a senior consultant, Rob is still very active in the international standards organizations. He has an accomplished career, starting as a wind tunnel operator at National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR). In his private life Rob is an enthusiastic amateur geologist, chairing part of the geological society in the Netherlands. He is now the grandfather of 3 lovely grandchildren.

6 Speakers Sam Howard is the CTO of Onda Corporation. As the Director of Onda s Acoustics Laboratory, he is responsible for Onda's measurement services including calibration of ultrasonic metrology instruments, regulatory measurements to meet requirements from standards such as the IEC and USFDA, and exploratory measurements to develop new ultrasonic devices. Prior to joining Onda in 2000, Sam was a member of the R&D staff at Acuson and Siemens Corporations, and was responsible for several innovative designs of phased arrays, from concept to production. A physicist and Mechanical Engineer by training, Sam received his Bachelor s degree from Harvard and his MS and PhD and from Cornell, where his graduate work was in acoustics, ultrasonics, and transducers. As a member of the US Advisory Group for IEC Technical Committee 87 he actively participates in the development and revision of measurement standards for medical and industrial ultrasound. Dr. Fangwei Ye Fangwei YE is a seasoned engineer with more than 17 years of research experience in HIFU technology. He is the chief technology officer of National Engineering Research Center of Ultrasound Medicine (NERCUM), technical expert of IEC TC 87, and commissioner of National Standardization Technical Sub-commission of Ultrasonic Medical Device. He is a leader in the field of HIFU measurement and standardization and has largely contributed to the definition of test requirements in ultrasound therapy. In his spare time, Fangwei enjoys a competitive game of Ping-Pong or bridge. Prof. Hairong Zheng Hairong ZHENG received his B.S. degree from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2000 and Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Colorado at Boulder in He joined the University of California at Davis first as a postdoctoral fellow, and then as a project scientist in the Biomedical Engineering Department. From late 2007, till now, he has been a professor at Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He also serves as the executive Director of Institute of Biomedical and Health Engineering and the Director of the Paul C. Lauterbur Research Center for Biomedical Imaging. Dr. Zheng has published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal papers and international conference proceedings. Dr. Zheng is a recipient of the American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship (2005). He is an IEEE Senior Member, TPC member of IEEE-Ultrasonics symposium, the Chair of IEEE-EMBS Shenzhen chapter, and an Associate Editor of IEEE-EMBS Conference Proceedings. Dr. Zheng s research areas have been focused on developing multifunctional ultrasonic systems for imaging/drug delivery and therapy, and multimodality medical imaging systems. Mr. Fu Cheng Wang Fu Cheng WANG is the R&D Ultrasound Manager in the Technology Department at Shenzhen Emperor Electronic Technology. He received his bachelor s in Mechanical Engineering at Xian Jiaotong University in 2003.
