1 Event program AOSpine Masters Symposium Controversies in Spinal Surgery August 12 13, 2016 Durban, South Africa
2 Welcome to Durban August 12 13, 2016 Durban, South Africa 3 Dear colleagues, AOSpine counts surgeons, researchers, ORP, and any healthcare professionals interested in spine from all five continents among its members and includes some of the world s foremost experts and thinkers in the field of spine surgery. We are a member-oriented, member-driven organization. Every AOSpine member is free to choose to actively participate and contribute to the atmosphere of collaboration, cooperation, and mentorship within AOSpine. AOSpine can provide educational, research, consulting, and networking opportunities to enrich the knowledge and enhance the career of any spine surgeon. AOSpine invests in spine research and offers state-of-the-art training courses, as well as fellowship programs and congresses which augment a surgeon s knowledge of spine principles and techniques, and enabling him or her to establish and nurture professional relationships within their country and around the world. Our purpose and responsibility is to shape our members skills and understanding of spine principles; to establish new values and incentives for the creation of knowledge, the sharing of wisdom, and the development of new tools and techniques that improve patient care, patient outcomes, and the cost effectiveness of spine surgery. It is never too soon or too late to learn. This is the core philosophy that drives AOSpine s educational activities. AOSpine aims to go above and beyond classical teaching: the goal is to challenge current paradigms, provoke thought, and open the mind to new ideas and skills. Sincerely, Shahzad Ali Khan Chairperson Johannesburg South Africa Robert Dunn Educational Advisor Cape Town South Africa
