I am also deeply grateful to the authors in this volume who have contributed their time, expertise, and enthusiasm for phenomenology and medicine - and who have patiently gone through the process of review and revision in such a timely and gracious fashion. Not only have I learned a great deal from their work but I have enjoyed our "conversations" via and am very grateful for the opportunity to develop new and stimulating avenues for international discussions about ongoing work. H. Tristram Engelhardt, Jr. and Ruiping Fan first persuaded me to consider undertaking this project. In retrospect, I am very glad that I accepted their kind invitation - although "in the midst of things" I must admit I was a little less sure about my wisdom in doing so.
