Some definitions of PERSEVERANCE: 1. Constancy in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. 2. Steady persistence in adhering to a course of action 3. To persist in or remain constant to a purpose, idea, or task in the face of obstacles or discouragement.

WHAT SOME PEOPLE SAID ABOUT PERSEVERANCE

"Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th." Julie Andrews

Our brain is the driver Where does it take us?

What s the brain s job? To help us SURVIVE!!!

1st JOB: Save energy to be used when needed: 20% of our energy is used by our brains!

2nd JOB:To get to know and control the outside world through our senses

A bacteria A crocodile CAN DO THAT!!!!! A jellyfish A person

To get to know the world outside us, we only need a few bright minds who invent things we can all use without knowing anything about them. Here are some examples:

3rd. JOB: To get to know and control the world inside us.

We can get to know and control the world inside us with our THOUGHTS and only humans can do that!!!

To control the world inside us we need a lot more bright minds

The quality of our thoughts depends on Genetic The quality of intelligence the information

Even the most intelligent people may seem stupid or crazy if their BBMUs have false, incomplete, out-ofdate or no information.

So we need to know how our brains work

Because if we cannot make something we really want to, something is not working well in our brain and we need and can correct it! Good news, isn t it?

Let me introduce you to the unit of our Nervous System: INCOMING WAYS Miss NEURON OUTGOING WAYS

The neurons connect with each other in a process called synapse neuron webs

These neuron webs can be created or taken apart adapting the brain over and over again AT WILL, WHENEVER WE WANT!!!! neuroplasticity

Our neurons connect with each other using NEUROTRANSMITTERS Dopamine (in charge of our movements and the sense of pleasure)

noradrenaline (gives us the necessary levels of energy)

Serotonin (gives us a sense of well-being)

Our brain is, in fact, made up of three brains REPTILIAN OR INSTINCTIVE BRAIN (5%) Makes sure we survive Super short way. FIGHT OR FLIGHT

MAMMAL OR EMOTIONAL BRAIN (10%) Helps us to learn and memorize. Pain File / Pleasure File Short way As the stimuli repeat, the neuron webs get stronger (and the other way round) NEUROPLASTICITY (Do you remember?)

COGNITIVE EXECUTIVE BRAIN (85%) It makes us different from other species. Long way Here are the PREFRONTAL LOBES, responsible for our personal and social emotional intelligence. The ability to identify, assess, manage and control our emotions, and others emotions.

With our PFL we can: Reason Think Evaluate Plan the future Foresee the consequences of our actions Persevere Be flexible and change plans Adapt to changes Control our impulses Understand emotions Give meaning to our world and our lives

Make decisions Motivate ourselves Create Postpone gratification Manage our emotional states Choose our values Manage adversity and frustration Be empathetic

Our BBMU s Jobs are: - Survive - Discover and avoid danger - Reward us every time we do something pro-survival successfully

We re optimistic, we re more motivated, we re happier. All along the way to overcome obstacles which oppose to our wishes. More power, pleasure, concentration, physical and mental energy

HAPPINESS Dopamine + Serotonin +

1 DREAM AND PLAN

We need to know what we want. We need to follow a plan. We need to accept delay in the reward. We need to keep continous action = 2 PERSEVERANCE

What do I want to do? Set a date! (Be specific!) Divide it into smaller aims You have an objective Write them, and read them every day

It looks like this AIM 1 AIM 2 AIM 3 AIM 4 dream Objective + date!

Ask yourselves: Am I motivated? Is my dream coherent with my values? Can I grow as a person? Can I help others? What type of person will I turn into while I work to make my dream come true?

And then Your BBMU will make the necessary changes and adjustments: Monitor your behaviour Monitor how you apply your plan Show flexibility and make changes when necessary Stop emotional impulses (The short way) Apply new knowledge using your PFL to decide which the best behaviour is (The long way)

People who persevere see obstacles and problems as part of their way to success. They focus on the solutions. They have hope Problems and solutions are logical ingredients in life!!!

Thomas Edison tried 10,000 different lamps until he found the one that worked, and he became a famous and rich man. Sylvester Stallone presented his Rocky project 300 times to different film producers until one accepted. Nowadays, everybody knows Rocky and knows who Sylvester Stallone is. Abraham Lincoln lost all elections during his political life, but he won the last one at the age of 52. and became the most remembered president of the USA.

And what helps? A belief gives you a sense of certainty, you have no doubt. It is a matter of faith, and it s not always based on a logical system of ideas.

How can I get a belief? Create new neuron webs with positive thoughts Avoid limiting ideas

With time, your belief becomes an emotionally loaded conviction and you feel

Never let what you don t know how to do interfere with what you can do. With love, Your BBMU
