2 *** Deadline of Application: 31 July 2016 *** Course Description: This three-day course is intended to increase knowledge about rehabilitation in Parkinson's disease (PD) and build clinical capacity of physiotherapists. The course will focus on updates in PD management, and how to optimize Parkinson care by implementing evidence-based physiotherapy techniques. The European PT guideline for decision support, assessment and management of Parkinson s disease will be used as a guide in some of these sessions. Finally, the workshop will include four practical workshops where participants will be able to apply their learned assessment and treatment skills to design, implement and progress the treatment protocols. Recommended Audience: The course is designed for physiotherapists who would like the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills in treating people with PD. No specific prior experience in PD is required. Learning Objectives: On completion of the workshop, you will be able to accomplish the following: Recognize the clinical presentation, management and progression of PD Understand the rationale of rehabilitative approaches in people with PD Describe the key areas of physiotherapy in people with PD Define a full subjective and objective assessment for a person with PD, using appropriate recommended measurement tools Describe the rational for designing and modifying a patient-specific treatment plan Identify strategies for collaborating with physicians and other health professionals Page 2 of 5
