2 I PRESENTATION I Over the last few years, there has been a remarkable development in the surgical techniques as well as in the number of surgical procedures on the spine. New materials have been developed that could provide more effective and easier solutions in degenerative conditions. New prospects in the treatment of inflammatory, rheumatic and infectious diseases of the spine have enhanced the role of spinal surgery in complex cases. In this framework, we thought it useful to provide an opportunity to share experience at a national and international level and certainly contribute to outlining limitations and possible future developments in this area.
