2 The Facts Motor vehicle crashes (MVC s) are the number one cause of death for children ages 1 to ,311 children died in MVC s in ,773 children were seen in Emergency Rooms for injuries 1

4 Restraints Save Lives Child Safety Seats, when installed and used correctly prevent injuries and deaths Rear facing seats 71% Forward facing seats 54% Booster seats 59%

5 Importance of CPS Programs If misuse of child safety seats was eliminated, an additional 30 deaths and 24,000 injuries could be prevented annually 3

7 Inter-Agency Child Safety Seat Consists of 7 Police Agencies and Department of Public Safety (DPS) Hold 26 events a year in cities of participating Police Agencies Will replace safety seat if recalled, broken or outdated but child must be present Task Force

8 Child Safety Seat Checks: Fitting Stations held twice a month Open to anyone Must call for an appointment: Have seats available if needed (limit 2/family)
