Fall Semester Academic year 2005/2006: Visiting Associate Professor, Biology Department, The American University in Cairo : Lecturer, Environmental Basic Sciences Department, Institute of Environmental Studies & Research Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt : Research Scientist, Research and Training Center on Vectors of Diseases, Ain Shams University : Research Assistant, Research and Training Center on Vectors of Diseases (RTC), Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. Teaching Philosophy My teaching philosophy is based on creating a safe environment that is interactive, collaborative, and promotes problem solving and critical thinking skills. I encourage students to ask questions and express their views and ideas and I support their opinions with data reach arguments. I listen carefully to student s feedback and suggestions about assignments; I strive to improve my service delivery and regularly review learning outcomes. I endeavor to make my class an arena for students to learn theory as well as to demonstrate the acquired knowledge and skills. I also emphasize the importance of communication by using humor to make learning enjoyable and to motivate the students to learn. I use the current teaching tools available, for example all my lectures are prepared as power point 2

3 presentations. I use all elements of multimedia available, and the courses I taught at the American University in Cairo were all accessible through Blackboard. To measure students learning, I utilize multiple assessments such as collaborative research projects, presentations, review activities, quizzes and traditional exams (multiple choice questions, short answers, and short essay questions). I use a comparative and interdisciplinary approach to give my students an integrated background about how scientific domains could be linked for instance; I strive to demonstrate to students the ways biological systems interact with their environment. I provide a conceptual biological framework for students to recognize and address environmental issues and motivate them to take actions through various educational and informational venues In order to achieve my ultimate goal of student learning I work hard on course content and assessment to create coherent courses that meet the needs of my students and prepare them to compete well on the job market with the knowledge and skills they acquired during their degree program.
