1 Sixth International Conference on Frontotemporal Dementia September 3-5, 2008 Rotterdam, The Netherlands June 12, 2007 For all enquiries please contact: Status Plus Conferences P.O. Box AB Maarn, The Netherlands T F E office@ftd2008.org
2 INTRODUCTION The FTD Conference will take place at the Beurs-WTC Conference Center in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, September The symposium is the biennal scientific event for clinicians and neuroscientists in the field of dementia, especially Frontotemporal Dementia, as well as for caregivers of patients. FTD is the second most common cause of dementia presenting before the age of 70, with an estimated prevalence of 15 per The disease is clinically characterized by frontal dysfunctions and behavioural changes, which frequently require antipsychotic interventions. The clinical spectrum of FTD has been expanded to parkinsonism and motor neuron disease or ALS by a common pathological and/or genetic background. The identification of Progranulin gene mutations in the hereditary form and of the TDP-43 protein as major constituent of neuronal inclusions has given impetus to the research on the pathophysiology of FTD and Motor Neuron Disease. Over recent years, the increasing importance of medical, legal and social issues relevant to providing care and living with patients with FTD and related disorders has been reflected by the active participation of lay organisations into the previous Conferences in Philadelphia and San Francisco. Previous conferences: San Francisco, U.S.A. (2006) Philadelphia, U.S.A. (2004) Lund, Sweden (2003) Toronto, Canada (2002) ROTTERDAM Rotterdam is the second largest city of the Netherlands. Traditionally considered the working city of the Netherlands it has developed into a city of avant-garde architecture and many musea. Definitely an experience and a gateway to visit the Netherlands at it s best season. Delft, the Hague and Amsterdam can be reached within 10 minutes, 15 minutes and one hour respectively by train. CONFERENCE VENUE The Beurs-WTC Conference Center is located in the business center and city center of Rotterdam. The venue offers first class facilities with state of the art technical support for scientific sessions and exhibitors. The Beurs-WTC is easily accessible by both public transport and car. Car parking facilities are available in the center's own multi-storey car park, and for public transport the metro station Beurs is just outside the building.
