2 ALFA HAPPOM ALFA is an educational program of cooperation between Europe and Latin America, sponsored and financed by the European Commission. Around 50 programs in each round, in all domains of science. Already three rounds: ALFA I, ALFA II (ours), and ALFA III ALFA HAPPOM is the first program of academical education in the field of High altitude physiology and medicine.
3 ALFA HAPPOM Objectives: Stimulate the development of education and research in the field of High altitude biology by the promotion of an high level group of biologists, physiologists, medical doctors, veterinarians Stimulate the development of basic science, applied knowledge for public health, and scientific cooperation between research laboratories
4 ALFA HAPPOM Ten universities are involved 24 students 14 professors 12 tutors Total budget of euros 75% financed by the EU 25% financed by the Universities
5 ALFA HAPPOM Selection of students in their university of origin (March 2005) International course in Arica (April 2005) Selection of 12 students (28 April 2005) Language formation (May to September 2005) Research grant in European universities (October-November 2005) (2 students in each university) General meeting in Lyon (December 2005) Research grant in Latin American universities (2006) (one month) Visit of european tutors to Latin America (2 weeks, 2006)
