2 Welcome and Introductions Approval of Previous Meeting TEP Program Update Community Transformation Grant Update Youth and Young Adult (YYA) Subcommittee- Future Meetings and Chair Meeting began with introductions at 9:05 am. of February 13, 2012 were approved by consensus. Presented by Kate, TEP Health Educator TEP finalized 1 year SOW for FY Objectives include: o Tobacco-free college campus policy o Retail Campaign Data Collection o Continuing to diversity the Coalition The TEP budget increased and is now a little more than baseline at $186,000 for FY The FY cycle is coming to an end. Additional TCC recruitment postcards were printed. Members are encouraged to use these cards to recruit new members to the September 2013 meeting. Presented by Kimberly The CTG Implementation Plan was submitted which has the overall goal of lowering blood pressure and cholesterol among high-risk populations. One objective includes tobacco-free living/control o Decreasing smoking allowed in multi-unit housing o Decreasing tobacco in the retail environment Go to Sierra Health Foundation s website ( for more information. Presented by Carolyn Alex accepted a new job and has left his position with Breathe California. Joelle volunteered to be the new YYA Subcommittee Chair. Members preferred to meet after the general TCC meetings, from 11-11:30am. TEP will continue to provide staff support and will send out a reminder for the next meeting. 2 of 5

3 TEP New Retail Objective Presentation & Recruitment Subcommittee Updates Secondhand Smoke Youth & Young Adult TRL Task Force Cessation Presented by Lea, TEP Health Educator TEP will be surveying over 300 retailers this summer as part of the State s new Healthy Retailer Campaign. Surveys will look at available tobacco products, cost, placement, flavors and also alcohol and nutrition components. Surveys will be conducted using ipod touch devices. TEP is in need of volunteers to drive, navigate and conduct surveys this July and August. Interested members should contact Kate at frantzk@saccounty.net to sign up. It was recommended that TEP post available volunteer opportunities to the Volunteer Center of Sacramento Second Hand Smoke, Presented by Theresa SOL Project, Presented by Twlia o The SOL Project is recognizing Sacramento Regional Transit District for the passing of a 100% Smoke-Free policy at all bus stops and light rail stations. The event will be on May 31, 2013 from 5:15-7:00pm and Coalition members are invited. o SOL is coming to the end of their 3-year cycle. o SOL will be holding two tobacco cessation events on May 7 th and May 14 th. STAND, Presented by Kimberly o Heald College is getting requests from employers who don t want to be sent students who smoke. o Folsom Lake Community College is working to identify which areas on campus will be designated smoking areas. The Next SHS Subcommittee meeting will be Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 1:30-3:00pm at Ettore s European Bakery. Youth and Young Adult No Updates 3 of 5

4 Tobacco Retail Licensing Task Force, Presented by Carolyn Carolyn sent a TRL packet to Folsom City and followed up with an but did not receive a response. Cessation, Presented by Sue, UCDMC Sue provided an update on the Medi-Cal Incentives to Quit Smoking (MIQS) project. o Right now, more people from Medi-Cal are calling and not asking for the gift cards than asking for them. o A mailing is going out soon to many rural providers to increase awareness of MIQS o Sue has MIQS postcards available for agencies that want to pass these out. California Youth Advocacy Network (CYAN) Presentation on New and Emerging Tobacco Products Code/Law Enforcement Update Policy Update Presented by Kimberly and Beth CYAN presented on new and emerging tobacco products currently on the market. Examples of products discussed include: Energy dip, strips, sticks, snus, and e- cigarettes. The complete PowerPoint presentation was ed to all Coalition members. None. o Kimberly from CYAN o Chancellor White from CSU announced in February that all CSUs will be 100% tobacco-free at some point. There is a committee that has been formed to research and discuss this issue in more detail. o The Information and Education Days event went very well and took place on May 6 th and 7 th at the Capitol. o The Statewide multi-unit housing bill failed. o Tim from the American Cancer Society is working with Coalition members on comprehensive smoke-free laws. 4 of 5

5 School District Updates SCUSD, Presented by Glennie A 6 th grader brought an e-hookah into school and smoked it as if it were candy. This student received an in-school suspension along with education. Go Bananas will take place this summer and consists of nutrition, fitness, ATOD education, and violence prevention.
