2 Talofa! Welcome to the Pacific Touch NYC community and congratulations on taking an important step towards achieving your skincare goals. Our mission is to teach people the value of nourishing their skin and healing their skin issues from the inside out. The nature of the relationship we have with our skin is a reflection of the relationship we have with ourselves and we want to help you improve BOTH those relationships. At Pacific Touch NYC we believe growing older is a privilege denied to many and is not something to fear and 'fight'. That being said there are simple things that we can do to look and more importantly FEEL our very best. We have put this resource together for you to share some simple tips that you can do yourself outside the treatment room to help you look and feel younger. Be Pacific, Nichola

4 1. Alkalize Now Drinking hot water with the juice of half a lemon first thing in the morning before you eat your breakfast is one of the best things you can do for your skin. If you are a Pacific Touch NYC regular then it will be no surprise that this makes it in at number 1 on this list. SKIN BENEFITS Aids in digestion and detoxification Incredibly alkaline Helps flush out toxins Wonderful source of Vitamin C INSIDER TIP: To increase detoxification add fresh ginger, a pinch of cayenne and/or turmeric

5 2. Go Bush Green smoothies and juices are renowned in the Wellness world and rightfully so (I have told many a client I would marry my Vitamix if it were legal!) One of the biggest issues for skin is chronic inflammation and one of the easiest ways to combat this is to flood your system with the nutrient dense alkalinity of leafy greens and other powerful vegetables and herbs. AN EASY SMOOTHIE RECIPE FOR REJUVENATING SKIN 2 Handfuls of Dark Leafy Greens 1/2 Avocado A Big Handful of Berries 2 TBL of Chia Seeds 1 Cup Almond Milk INSIDER TIP: Freeze pre chopped smoothie ingredients (minus the liquid) ahead of time. I used containers in the picture below but you can also use ziplock bags

Fat Is Our Friend Fat has long been a scapegoat in the media as something to restrict and avoid if possible and led to the worrisome "Non Fat" (but high sugar, chemical laden) trend which has had devastating impact on health in general (and on skin given that skin is a reflection of what is going on inside) Not all fat is created equally. Healthy fats are NECESSARY to look and feel younger as they help us fight inflammation in the body and help skin stay hydrated and supple. Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids protect skin cells and help the skin's ability to hold onto water which leads to more hydrated and supple skin. Our favorite sources of Omega 3 fatty acids come from salmon, flaxseed, chia seeds and walnuts. INSIDER TIP: Smoothie bowls are a simple and delicious way to incorporate plenty of Omega 3's (in the picture below I teamed up a berry based smoothie with pistachio, pumpkinseeds, shredded coconut and chia seeds)

Processed Sugar Is The Real Enemy There is really no way to sugar coat it... processed sugar is anti-aging enemy #1 Sugar speeds up the aging process by binding and weakening collagen in our skin which leads to premature wrinkles and sagging. A high sugar diet also reduces the quality of collagen in the skin and makes it harder for the cells in the skin to repair normal damage - eek! One of the issues we face today in Western society is that our diet is laden with low quality carbohydrates (eg white bread, pasta, pastries) that break down in the body as sugar. Sugar is highly addictive and so cutting down can be an issue for many of us but here are some simple tips that we have found extremely helpful: Saturate your palate with alkalinity (go bush!) this will not only retrain your brain to crave another taste other than sweet but will also give you an abundance of the energy that can draw you to crave sugar in the first place. If you need to sweeten a dish avoid refined nutrient poor white sugar and try instead healthier options like raw honey, date syrup, coconut sugar or molasses. INSIDER TIP; Read labels! Be aware of sugar that is hidden in foods that are marketed as healthy like granola, yogurt and fruit (you will be shocked at how high in sugar some foods can be).

8 5. You Snooze...You Win Sleep more and age less!!! Our cells grow and repair when we sleep and our immune system is strengthened while we sleep which helps slow the aging process. Sleep induces the production of collagen which is a KEY ingredient in firmer skin. Excessive stress has a detrimental effect on the hormones we need to keep us looking and feeling young. Sleep is the only time the body is not producing cortisol (stress hormone) so...you snooze, you win! Have problems sleeping? INSIDER TIP: Magnesium is renowned for being a powerful relaxation mineral and can help if you have sleep problems but research this and as always be sure to check with your doctor first.

9 6. Protect Yourself Sun damage is one of the major culprits of premature aging of the skin. Most of us know that sunscreen is necessary for topical sun protection but did you know there are things you can EAT that will help protect you from the sun and help repair sun damage. Tomatoes contain lycopene which is a super anti oxidant (cooked tomatoes are best so think tomato paste & fresh tomato sauce). Lycopene is also found in peppers, apricots, papaya, pink grapefruit and water melon. Green tea has a truckload of antioxidants and is renowned for it's antiinflammatory & anti-aging properties. Chocolate too has a high concentration of anti-oxidants that can protect the skin (aim for high quality dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa) Red Wine has anti-oxidants (found in the skin of grapes) that protect against redness, swelling, burning and blistering Omega 3 rich fish (wild salmon and anchovies are two of our favorites) can boost the skin's natural immune system and ability to fight off cancer and it also reduces inflammation INSIDER TIP: Whilst we obviously want everybody to be extra careful in the sun if you do get a sunburn aloe vera gel can provide relief (we love it straight from the plant)

10 7. Nourish Inside & Out As we mentioned on the welcome page it is our mission at Pacific Touch NYC to teach people the value of nourishing their skin and healing their skin issues from the inside out. In between professional facials you can use ingredients found in your kitchen to make your own fabulous masks. Some of our favorite mask ingredients that help us look and feel younger are avocado, greek yogurt, pumpkin puree, raw honey, fresh aloe gel and parsley. Here is a recipe I put together for you to try at home: 1/3 cup yogurt, 1/3 cup oatmeal, half a mashed avocado 1 Heaped TBL raw honey (we love Manuka UMF 15+) Mix well, prepare to get messy and apply for 15 minutes and then rinse off with warm water. Tip: Lay a towel down on the couch and use "mask time" as an opportunity to put your feet and relax...cut some fresh cucumber slices to lay on your eyes (depuff and refresh). INSIDER TIP: Make sure that you always do a little patch test of anything you make to put on your face...even if something is natural there is always the chance of sensitivities.
