Health Benefits of Pumpkin Just like their orange cousins, the carrot and the sweet potato, pumpkins are rich in beta carotene. Your body changes this antioxidant to vitamin A. You need vitamin A to see, ward off germs, and for the reproductive system. It also helps your heart, lungs, kidneys, and other organs stay healthy. One cup of pumpkin can give you 200% of your recommended daily intake of vitamin A. It also brings another biggie: a lowered risk of certain kinds of cancer. Studies show this benefit comes only when you eat foods with vitamin A. You don t get the same protection from vitamin A supplements alone. Pumpkin also offers vitamin C, vitamin E, iron and folate - all of which strengthen your immune system. Pumpkin s rich orange color is also a sign it s packed with potassium - crucial for lowering blood pressure. Unsalted pumpkin seeds are crammed with minerals and plant sterols that raise LDL cholesterol levels and help keep blood pressure numbers down. Studies show that higher potassium levels can lower your risk of stroke, kidney stones, and type 2 diabetes and it may also increase bone mineral density, boosting your bone health. Pumpkins are high in fiber and low in calories which means they make you feel full without adding to your overall food intake for the day. The fiber uptick in your diet promotes digestive health too. Pumpkin seeds have tryptophan, an amino acid that helps make a chemical called serotonin. In addition to making you feel good, serotonin is also a key player in promoting good sleep. The antioxidant power of beta carotene in pumpkin works to combat the effects of aging on your skin and helps ease inflammation. Your odds of heart disease go down as your fiber intake goes up and pumpkin is loaded with it. The vitamin A and potassium you get also play a part in heart health. So order up a pumpkin spice latte - right?? Probably not... The best way to get pumpkin s health benefits is to avoid the sugar processing of baked goods or pumpkin flavor. Opt for more wholesome choices - roasted pumpkin, pumpkin puree, pumpkin hummus or try pumpkin soup! Source: WebMD
Pierre/Ft Pierre We recently had six of our VIPs take in the VIP Greek Islands and Eastern Mediterranean Tour. From what we hear it was an amazing trip from start to finish! Make sure to check out all the pictures included in this and next month s newsletter!! Top Left - Beverly, Don, Linda and Gloria along with Pam, VIP escort, in beautiful Crete Top Right - the Williams tossing coins into the Trevi Fountain in Rome Bottom - The Pierre group in historic Malta The VIP Club has a couple of outstanding trips planned in The Ultimate British Isles Cruise/ Tour and The Beautiful Blue Danube Cruise/Tour! It s not too late to get signed up for one of these fabulous trips. Please contact Tammy or Marcie at or Megan at for more information or to reserve your spot today!
Lead Our Fall Get Together was held on Oct. 30 th. Alice M. and Connie B. shared pictures of their VIP trip to Niagara Falls. They had such a great trip. Vicki shared pictures and information from her VIP trip to the Mediterranean and the Greek Islands. It is not every year that we have local people going on the many trips that are offered through the VIP Club. First National Bank and the VIP Club have worked with TRIPS for many years in planning our VIP trips. Everything is planned out and organized very professionally. It is their business to make sure every passenger has the best possible experience while traveling with them. Everyone enjoyed the great amenities offered on board NCL s Norwegian Spirit from amazing food in the many restaurants, towel animals placed on our beds every night, great entertainment and activities, and even the drink of the day! We also enjoyed the great excursions offered by TRIPs to different parts of the many islands we visited - historic ancient buildings, a double decker bus in Italy, a night in Rome (they say Roma), delicious Italian food, homemade mozzarella cheese demo in Sorrento, a horse drawn carriage through the Street of Knights & the Grand Masters in Rhodes, Greece, cable cars up to Santorini, Greece, wine tasting at a local winery, and of course shopping for leather purses and handbags in Naples/Pompeii, Italy. Not to mention the many vineyards, olive trees and lemon trees. TRIPS did all the planning - all we had to do was make great memories and enjoy a trip of a lifetime! Rapid City We had a great time with our VIPs on September 26th. We went to the Elks Theatre and watched ALPA such a great movie about a young man who became friends with a wolf. Popcorn and drinks are always good at the Elks. It was a wonderful group of 16 thanks to all for joining us!
Huron Corliss Kleinsasser was the lucky VIP Club winner of a free stroke detection screening on September 25th. All VIP members who have signed up in advance will be entered into a drawing to receive their screening free on that day. The next Stroke Detection Screening is Tuesday, December 11th. Call to schedule your appointment. VIP members also receive reduced pricing for all 4 screenings The VIP Club is offering two fantastic tours in 2019! The Ultimate British Isles in June and The Beautiful Blue Danube in October. There is still time to sign up for these tours! We are also working on a trip to Pella, Iowa, the first week of May for the Tulip Festival with possible side trips to an Amish farm and/or Amana Colonies. Other possible trips for 2019 include Medora Musical and Branson. Watch for details in upcoming newsletters! Contact Leann for more information on these upcoming trips. VIP members from Huron along with escort, Leann Dramstad, enjoyed the fabulous VIP trip to Italy, the Greek Islands and Malta in October. Check out next month s newsletter for more pictures of our great adventure! The Huron group enjoyed a delicious lunch with a very entertaining chef at Teppanyaki on the beautiful Norwegian Spirit during our first day at sea.
BONJOURNO! Arapahoe What a great month October was! Twenty of our Arapahoe VIPs and guests had a lovely time exploring Italy, various Greek Islands, and beautiful Malta on our VIP Trip. This was my first extended trip with the VIP Club as a VIP escort and it was such a great experience. I was able to chat and spend time with our Arapahoe VIPs individually and it proved to be a great way to learn more about them. A few of the benefits of these wonderful trips each year are the friendships and relationships that are made with fellow passengers, as well as being able to meet new faces from the other banks within our VIP family that participate. If you have never been on one of our VIP trips, please consider signing up! So many great memories are made and the trips are truly an experience of a lifetime. As always, TRIPS, the company we work with to set up these phenomenal adventures does an outstanding job! From the flight, to hotel accommodations, and the amazing excursions they plan. It was truly extraordinary! A very huge thank you to them for all of their hard work. If you are interested and want more information on the two upcoming 2019 Trips to the Beautiful Blue Danube or the British Isles, please let Samantha know. The more the merrier!
