Tell others that tobacco can cause heart disease and cancer. Stick With Water! Help Others Be Heart Healthy! Skip sugary beverages drink water instead. Spread the word about healthy habits. Add flavor to water with slices of watermelon or cucumber. + Remember! Too much sugar can contribute to heart disease and tooth decay. Set a good example of a healthy lifestyle. Encourage others to make positive changes. Get students monstrously excited about heart health! Materials: brightly colored bulletin board paper (background) brown bulletin board paper (tree stump) green crepe paper six heart-healthy info sheets, provided monster character, provided brown marker stapler scissors Steps: 1. Cover a bulletin board (or large wall space) with bulletin board paper. Cut a tree trunk shape from the brown paper. Add details with the marker. Use crepe paper to trim the display. Add a title. Cut out the monster character and staple it to the display. Staple the heart-healthy info sheets to the display. Extension Activity: Label a jumbo heart cutout for each grade level in the school. The next time you meet with each class, gather the students around the display. Go over the heart-healthy action statements on each info sheet. Encourage conversation. Then invite each student to sign the appropriate grade level heart to show his or her commitment to living a heart-healthy lifestyle. When students in each grade level have added their names, post the cutouts around the gym.

2 Classroom Display Pack Additional Suggestions: Scare Squad Get your students and their families involved in heart-healthy habits. Give each student a Heart-Healthy Bingo Card to take home. Ask students to work with their families to complete ten or more heart-healthy lifestyle actions within one week. Explain that each student who returns a signed bingo card showing five boxes colored in a row will have his or her name entered in a drawing to win the privilege of choosing the game or activity for an upcoming P.E. class. Engage students in a heart-healthy physical activity while reviewing heart-healthy behaviors. Line up half of the students on each side of the gym with the lines facing each other. To play a round, direct students to hop, skip, jump, or gallop to the center of the gym. Announce a heart-healthy habit. If a student has practiced the habit in the last day, he or she continues to the other side of the gym. If not, the student returns to his or her starting point for that round. Students start the next round from their current locations. Now that s a hearthealthy review!
