11 Barriers to Women s Advancement Barriers drawn from post conference survey analysis Balancing work and home Lack of mentorship / sponsorship Women s lack of assertiveness System / culture gender bias As a young global health professional I feel a lot of pressure to choose - either to have a family and remain in a low-level role forever or decide not to have a family and pursue leadership positions. One of the biggest challenges is that we do not acknowledge and appreciate the different forms of leadership that are presented by women. I believe we need a shift in what we think leadership can look like.
