13 Intent of establishment for Non-profit organization Malaria No More Japan In Japan we have overcome the threat of malaria long ago, so the Japanese cannot feel the realities of it. But still half of the population of the world is exposed to threat of malaria infection. According the estimate by United Nations, approximately 650,000 people fell victim to the disease in 2010, of which many are concentrated in the sub-saharan Africa. Besides, more than 80% of them are children less than 5 years of age. There, every minute one human is sacrificed losing life. Their lives could have been saved if there were proper responding measures to malaria. Eradicating malaria would lead not only to saving children s lives and lowering death rates, but also to overcoming the vicious circle of poverty. Malaria as an infectious disease that can be prevented and treated. Infection may be prevented by using mosquito net that is insecticide-treated. By correct diagnosis and proper treatment, malaria is more likely to be cured. Actually, thanks to positive reaction by international institutions etc. such as distribution of mosquito net, diagnosis kit and remedial medicines etc. worldwide death rate due to malaria decreased approximately by 20%. But more global efforts are required until the eradication of malaria. Malaria No More is a non-profit organization engaged in international effort to eliminate malaria since Headquartered in the U.S., the organization has affiliates in Canada, U.K. and the Netherlands. We agree and support to the activities of the organization, valuing the role of developing malaria eradicating activities in Japan with the experience of overcoming incidence of malaria earlier on. Malaria No More Japan is established for the purpose of writing new history on worldwide malaria eradication focused on Asian countries as well as implementation of development and policy advisory activities, toward achievement of the Millennium Development Goal by Malaria No More Japan will organize events at TICAD V in June 2013 in Yokohama as well as on the World Malaria Day(April 25) in addition to development and distribution of communication tools for advocacy efforts as well as provide policy advice on malaria. Furthermore, Malaria No More Japan aims to enhance living standards in countries and regions of developing world and contribute to make society more sustainable by strengthening alliance with other organizations operating in Asian region to pursue geographical expansion of overseas development activities as well as by implementing various efforts to prevent malaria in Africa and Asia.
