1 Membership Rules of Membership of The Acupuncture Society The Acupuncture Society is a professional body of acupuncture practitioners. It was formed to promote the development of Chinese acupuncture, herbal medicine and diagnosis as an effective medical practice. It strives to preserve and further develop the original Chinese medical tradition and at the same time to serve as a bridge to modern medicine. It stands for high professional and ethical values reflected in the Societies Code of Ethics, Rules and Regulations. Membership There are different types of membership of The Acupuncture Society, Student, Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Auricular and Acupressure. The membership is renewed on an annual basis subject to compliance with the Society's Code of Ethics, Rules and Regulations. The annual membership fees are: Full (Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine) Student Membership - 50 Auricular - 50 Acupressure - 50 Combined Auricular and Acupressure - 50 Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture - 50 Advanced Spinal Acupuncture - 50 Student members are not entitled to practice until they have received their qualification certificate and are adequately insured. They are not allowed to use the Society's

2 abbreviations after their names. Membership can be suspended at any time pending an investigation on conduct matters or due to breaches of the Code of Ethics, Rules and Regulations. The Acupuncture Society recommends that member undertake 30 hours per year of Continued Professional Development. This can include practitioner research, attendance of specialist courses, and attendance and participation in our forums program where TCM practitioners can get together informally to discuss treatments and techniques. Society Abbreviations MAcS - Member of The FAcS - Fellow of The MPCHM - Member Practitioner of Chinese Herbal Medicine. MAcSAu - Auricular Member of The MAcSAp - Acupressure Member of The Acupuncture Society. MAcSCA - Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture Member of The MAcSSpA - Advanced Spinal Acupuncture Member of The Requirements for becoming a member of the Acupuncture Society

3 The Acupuncture Society accepts: a) Graduates of the College of Chinese Medicine b) Practitioners of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese medicine who have completed a 5 year professional course in mainland China. (applicants must send in copy s of their certificate of training and their CV in English, they should have completed a first aid course either here or in china and are required to attend an interview with the society s admissions board for which 100 fee will be charged). All applicants must make a declaration that their English is up to level 6 standard & if not please state if you are working with a translator or not if you are not sure of your standard we can interview you to asses your communicative skills. All members are obliged to adhere to the society s code of ethics, rules and regulations, and must be fully insured, keep accurate patient and tax records and operate in a legal and professional manner. Members must forward to the society annually the following documents: A valid certificate of professional indemnity insurance A copy of sharps disposal contract (Not applicable to Acupressure members) The annual membership renewal fee of 100 Members are recommended 30 hours of Continued Professional Development per year (15 Hours of profession related courses or seminars and 15 Hours of home research)

4 All applicants need to supply a copy of their professional indemnity insurance & 100 annual subscription fee. All applicants must declare that they have attended a first aid course or that they are about to do so. All Acupuncture applicants must state the provisions they have made or will make for used needles & clinical waste. All applicants must declare if they have a criminal record.
