2 Maryland Statistics MSDE data as cited on The number of children with autism in Maryland is currently increasing by 18 % per year (MSDE) As of October 2008, there were 841,671 students in Maryland schools Actual number of children with IEPs AND with a Code 14 (autism ) designation is 8185 (about 1:102). The caveats are as follows: data does not include any children from birth to three who are receiving services under the Maryland Infants and Toddlers Program data does not include children 3 5 who are currently coded developmentally delayed data does not include kids with IEPs who have another special education classification data does not include kids who are homeschooled or are in private school at parent expense data does not include kids who may have autism or asperger s but have 504 plans rather then IEPs In Baltimore County 1 in 98 students has autism. In Baltimore City 1 in 187 students has autism.
