Boost your knowledge of how to navigate the system, interact with individuals within the system and understand the process so that you can better advocate for your foster youth. Tuesday, October 10, 2017 Child Development Build upon your understanding of children s developmental needs and how to interact with your child s feelings in each developmental stage while also learning new parenting styles/tools/strategies that are developmentally appropriate for your child. The more you clearly understand your child, the more effective you will be in constructing parenting solutions. Thursday, October 12, 2017 The Impact of Psychological Trauma on Development and Learning Understanding the different types of events that lead to Traumatic experiences that children are exposed too. 2 Positive Parenting Strategies Explore various forms of positive parenting strategies to support the youth in displaying appropriate behavior and meeting their therapeutic health goals. Learn how to implement age appropriate logical and evidenced based consequences. Participants are encouraged to bring their own personal situations to obtain customized parenting strategies. Tuesday, October 24, 2017 Understanding Mental Health Diagnosis Participants will gain an understanding of the most common mental health diagnosis of children in Foster Care. Learn how to identify behavioral and psychological indicators of emotional distress and obtain the ability to manage difficult behaviors. Monday, November 6, 2017 Working with the Autistic Child This workshop covers the complexity of Autism, yet the simplicity of Autism. It gives Care Providers some idea of what to expect when deciding to work with children who are Autistic, the various levels of Autism, and some very creative ideas on how to provide healthy recreation for Autistic Children. 3 Stress and Time Management This workshop reveals basic strategies for setting goals, objectives and priorities. Showing props such as date books and to-do lists, the instructor discusses ways these tools can help people schedule activities and get more accomplished with less stress Monday, November 13, 2017 Working with the Strong Willed Child This workshop provides foster parents with effective techniques on how to deal with the strong willed child. 4 D-Rate Certification (16 Hours) The D-Rate certification is a specialized training for caregivers (licensed foster parents, relative caregivers, and non-relative legal guardians) to develop the skills necessary to effectively deal with the unique challenges of caring for children who exhibit severe and persistent emotional and behavioral problems. The training will also cover information on counseling, psychotherapy, medication monitoring, special education, child development and behavior management. 5 F- Rate Certification (16 Hours) The F-Rate certification is a specialized training for caregivers (licensed foster parents, relative caregivers and non-relative legal guardians) to develop the skills necessary to effectively deal with the unique challenges of caring for children with special, medical needs such as those with severe asthma, traumatic brain injury, shaken baby syndrome and prenatal alcohol and drug exposure.
