ECMH registration Keynote Presentation Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation Early childhood is a time of dynamic developmental changes, impacting both the children themselves and the adults who care for them. The unique needs of infants and young children are made even more complex when they intersect with early childhood serving systems, such as childcare, Head Start, preschool, early intervention, and home visiting programs. The professionals in these systems are working to provide much needed services, but are often faced with children and family systems deeply impacted my multiple adverse events. These stressors have the potential to create barriers to services and forming effective relationships with families. Early Childhood Mental

2 Health Consultation (ECMHC) creates a system of support for early childhood serving systems and families, in effect mitigating these barriers. In this keynote, attendees will hear both an agency and a parent perspective on the impact of ECMHC on early childhood serving systems and participants will develop a clear understanding of what ECMHC is and is not. The presenters will cover the positive impact of ECHMC on strengthening trauma-sensitive practices for early childhood serving settings, the preliminary system and program level requirements for implementation, and the importance of building strong parent partnerships from the beginning. Breakout Sessions Participants will be able to attend two breakout sessions in the afternoon. Arrive early to reserve your spot! Breakout Session 1 - Stacey Otto & Elizabeth Pupeter Remembering Your Way: An Invitation to Rest, Reflect, & Renew Stacey Otto, LCSW & Elizabeth Pupeter, MT-BC warmly invite you to join them for a unique opportunity for reflection and renewal. In this workshop, you will create an accepting environment to explore the challenging concepts of burn out, compassion fatigue, and secondary traumatic stress. You will discuss the impact of working with young children and their families who have experienced trauma, discover nurturing strategies for self-care, and experience expressive arts interventions that provide rejuvenation. Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will receive information about burn out, compassion fatigue, and secondary traumatic stress. 2. Participants will engage in Expressive Arts activities. 3. Participants will be recognized and feel validated. Breakout Session 2 - Dr. Casey Hanson Terrible Two s and Threenager s or Normative Development Dr. Hanson will review various behaviors and modes of communication utilized by infants and toddlers. Dr. Hanson will discuss developmental milestones associated with social and emotional development and when to seek additional evaluation or

3 intervention. Session will focus on infant-caregiver relationship, co-regulation, and impacts of early developmental experiences. Breakout Session 3 - Katy Trottier & Judge Mary Triggiano Transforming our Court System: Healthy Infant Court Katy Trottier and Judge Mary Triggiano from Milwaukee County Children s Court are working to change how young children and their families are supported through the court process by recognizing the importance of early relationships. In this session, you will learn about this innovative pilot program and hear from one of the pilot s success stories. Breakout Session 4 -Ashlee Rahmlow Postpartum Mood Disorders Studies estimate that 1 in 7 pregnant and new mothers will experience a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder and list postpartum depression as the leading complication in childbirth. Given the correlation of postpartum depression and maternal suicide and the increase Adverse Childhood Events experienced by children of depressed mothers, it is imperative that all professionals that have contact with pregnant and new mothers have the ability to recognize symptoms and talk with moms about their mental health. The aim of this breakout session is to provide a foundational knowledge of perinatal mental health, including signs and symptoms of postpartum anxiety, depression, OCD, bipolar disorder and psychosis. Participants will be able to identify risk factors in the development of PMADs and walk away with a general understanding of treatment options and community resources. The presentation will be a combination of lecture and discussion using case examples and encouraging participation throughout.

4 Presenter Bios Kevin O Brien, LMFT, LCSW is Manager of the Family Institute of AFS a training, consultation and direct practice program serving the greater Milwaukee community. He also provides psychotherapy to children, adults, couples and families, including children 0-5, at a group practice in the Milwaukee area. Kevin has partnered with children and families for over 25 years in a variety of settings, including residential treatment, community mental health, and domestic violence programs. He helped to establish a trauma-focused treatment program in Waukesha that included services to young children and their families. A graduate of the inaugural UW Madison Certificate program, Kevin believes in the power of collaboration when working with families and other professionals. He has been involved in developing a nationally recognized partnership providing early childhood mental health consultation with several home visitation programs serving the Milwaukee community since Elizabeth Pupeter, MT-BC, WMTR, is a board-certified music therapist and is licensed with the State of Wisconsin. She has been practicing music therapy for over 24 years. Since 2008 Elizabeth has collaborated with Stacey Otto, LCSW in providing a variety of music, drumming and movement interventions to children and families who have experienced trauma. One of their valued partnerships has been their participation with the WI Trauma Project. In addition, Elizabeth has presented at numerous conferences, including the Midwest Conference on Child Sexual Abuse, the Great Lakes Regional Music Therapy Conference, and the 2014 and 2016 Summit on Healthy Teen Relationships.

5 Dr. Casey Hanson is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. Dr. Hanson completed her Clinical internship at Mendota Mental Health Institute where she worked with children with severe mental health concerns, adolescents involved in juvenile justice with severe psychopathology, and adults with co-occurring personality and major mental health disorders in inpatient settings. Dr. Hanson completed her MS and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Marquette University and her BS at University of WI- Oshkosh. Dr. Hanson specializes in Psychological Evaluation including diagnostic evaluation for children (age 2 and above), adolescents and adults. Dr. Hanson is skilled in the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Attention Deficit, Behavioral Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress disorder, Personality Disorders and Psychotic Disorders. Dr. Hanson also provides outpatient psychotherapy services with areas of expertise including Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Child-Parent Psychotherapy, Prolonged Exposure, Exposure and Response Prevention, Habit Reversal, and Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Tourette Syndrome. Dr. Hanson has experience in the treatment of children and adults with anxiety, depression, behavioral difficulties, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social skills deficits, and severe and persistent mental health concerns. Katy Trottier is a pediatric registered nurse and infant mental health professional. She has worked in child protective services with children ages birth to five, their parents, and foster parents since At the end of 2016 she became the Court Coordinator for Healthy Infant Court, a therapeutic, problem-solving court within Milwaukee County Children s Court. It is the first baby court of its kind in Wisconsin. She received her BSN from Northern Michigan University and completed the Infant, Early Childhood, and Family Mental Health Certificate program at UW- Madison in She is currently a PhD candidate at UW- Milwaukee in the College of Nursing. Her dissertation work focuses on increasing parental proficiency and social-emotional competency of infants and young children involved in child protective services through the parent-child interaction. Katy has presented at the Wisconsin Alliance for Infant Mental Health Annual Conference, the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the World Congress of the World Association for Infant Mental Health. She lives in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

6 Judge, Mary Triggiano is a graduate of UW-Madison Law School and has been a Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge since August 1, She was first assigned to the Children's Division from August 2004 to August She was next assigned to the Domestic Violence Court, handling adult misdemeanor and felony domestic abuse and child abuse cases. Since August 13, 2014, she has been assigned to the Children s Court Division. She leads the Family Drug Treatment Court and is creating the first of its kind in Wisconsin Healthy Infant Court. She currently is presiding judge at Children s Court and a Deputy Chief Judge for Chief Judge Maxine White. Judge Triggiano has been or is involved in the following: Wisconsin Trial Judges Association, Department of Children & Families Trauma Trainings, National Governor s Association Conference on Child Well Being and member of the Policy Advisory Committee to Fostering Futures a trauma informed care project of First Lady Tonette Walker; National Council on Juvenile & Family Court Judges Model Court and ONE Project; Milwaukee s Community Justice Council Public Health Subcommittee; Wisconsin Committee on Children, Families & Courts - Children s Court Improvement Program; Legislative Committee on Problem Solving Courts, Restorative Justice initiatives at Children s Court and Marquette Law School. Ashlee Rahmlow, MSW/LCSW is the founder of Mom2Mom and works as a Behavioral Health Specialist in primary care at Affinity Medical Group- Ascension. She is a State cocoordinator for Postpartum Support International and served as a presenter on the Ethics and Boundaries in working with postpartum moms at 2016 s Warrior Mom s Conference and Postpartum Support International s annual conference in Ashlee believes that healthy moms foster healthy families and communities and began Mom2Mom to ensure that information and peer support are readily available for all families struggling with Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders.
